So. Because I thought driving three thousand miles to get back to school would be a good idea, I'm in the middle of the United States right now. I've spent my entire life either on the east coast or in California, so it's a bit of a culture shock. Mostly with the flat. And the giant signs for fast food places, although I hear those go away when you get farther from the freeway Interstate. And people don't seem to be honking their horns much, which is a bit strange.
Anyways, I don't have cable most of my life (my parents thought it rotted the brain, and in college - hah! You think I'm going to pay for that?), so one of the exciting things about road trips is the ability to watch television on an actual television set. Of course it's Saturday night in the summer so nothing at all is actually on, but still. It's shiny.
I have a rough to-do list, which is basically
1) relearn those things I should know (All that math stuff? Gone!)
2) maybe write some fanfic at some point
3) sleep!
Not on that list: get a new fandom. But, well, the local CW affiliate was showing Legend of the Seeker. And. Um.
First episode I saw was basically a clip show, which was rather convenient. From what I can gather, this show is every fanfiction cliche wrapped into one hour. (Hel-lo random bondage lady.) The second episode was a mind transfer thing, which did little to dispel that assumption. Plus: pretty girls in pretty dresses! (And did my eyes deceive me, or was she wearing some sort of pants under her skirt at one point?) Pretty boys with no shirts! SOCK PUPPETS, WHAT THE HECK.
Also: the Big Bad disguises himself as the hero's ex-girlfriend in order to find out his secrets? And, in this disguise, makes out with the hero? Doctor Who, I think you may have been beat in the Foe Yay department. Although, take heart, you are still winning in the Epic Doomed Lovers Who Are Also Very Pretty competition. But only by a thread.
In other words: I am trying very hard to not find this addicting and amazing. I am not sure that my willpower can hold out.
