Xander had a rough few months. It was almost an understatement as he had returned from the funeral of a long time friend, Cordelia Chase to find out he had been fired while he was away. Surely taking a week and a half off to catch up with friends and console others they should have understood. However the partners at Herrin, Holt and Garrett didn't see it that way. It could have been attributed to the fact that the conference call he had blown off to be in Boston ended in a fiasco that was going to be costing the firm quite a large sum of money. Jackson had come in from Dallas, but it hadn't been enough. The firm lost the account, and the firm let Xander Harris go.
He collected unemployment while he looked for work in Texas, but the more he looked the more frustrated he got with the market. Then he got a phone call from someone he hadn't expected, Faith. It was an odd call, one pressed with tension and a slight tone that he couldn't place. Maybe it was that Faith sounded happy, and that was almost unsettling to him. Faith had heard about him getting fired from Linus. No doubt via the emails they shared about Lost and the random fact filled updates that Xander loved to hand over with no questions asked. The way Xander saw it Linus was a decent guy, and deserved to know a bit more than the label on Faith gave away. Faith was like a bag of animal crackers... no a can of soda. It says natural flavors, but you never know exactly what's in those "natural" flavors. The information was just Xander's way of helping out.
Faith had called with a few options for him for employment. It turned out that all the work Faith did in Chicago was mostly for contractural firms and construction companies. She even had a few architect firms using her 'services' to keep their job sites Vamp-Free. She had passed along his information and they had sounded interested.
Xander made a few phone calls with the contacts Faith provided him with and by the next weekend he had set up an interview in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He caught a flight out and had been in a series of interviews for the entire afternoon.
An hour ago they slid an offer across the table.
Fifty-eight minutes ago Xander felt his heart stop.
Fifty-three minutes ago Xander put on his best game face and told the partners at Cline, Martin and Kayne that he would have to put some thought into it.
Forty minutes ago Xander opted to drive around Connecticut a bit to see if he could find his place here.
Thirty minutes ago he drove into a sleepy town by the name of Thayer, and for the past ten minutes he had been seated at a bar staring at the slip of paper that had his future written on it with more than a few zeros behind it. It wasn't something to think about really, it was something to realize. It was almost unbelievable, but there it was in parchment and blue, which wasn't nearly as impressive sounding as black and white.
