Children of Earth: Day Four (redux)

So, yes. Choir should have ended in time for me to get back for the last episode of Children of Earth, but unfortunately notices and things meant we left church at just after nine.

It's ok, I thought. It will be on iPlayer at ten.

ARGH NO. Apparently, it won't be on iPlayer until 12.05am. (I probably won't actually stay up until then; I'm too tired.) So, while hitting refresh regularly in the hope that it might actually come up earlier, I'm watching Day Four again.

  • I like Nick Brigg's character. I love his stumble over the word children, quickly substituting the less emotive 'units'. Also, his attempt to put a positive spin on it, playing on overpopulation fears, is brilliantly political.
  • The PM's executive decision to keep children and grandchildren of people round the table safe? Absolutely ridiculous. Leaving aside the obvious moral ambiguity and bias of it, it does lead to the obvious 'what about the rest of our families?' Better just not to start down that road.
  • The whole thing about giving the 10% from the bottom of the intellectual heap? Chilling. I almost want to say, though, that it's a good idea. But I can't quite bring myself to do that, because it's just too creepy.
  • I am annoyed that they barely even try talking to it. They reject the military option - I have to say, being unable to find them (apart from the ambassador) is a fair excuse - but they don't try explaining that no, this is not how we do things on Earth. We love our children. We don't give them away. No.
  • I bloody love Lois Habiba. I hope she stays.
  • The music at the end, while everyone was dying, was brilliant.
