*sigh* I am at the point where I am about to struggle to stay awake much longer. I have utterly destroyed my body clock - I think it's smashed and in pieces under my bed somewhere - but oh, it was worth it.

For last night was June Ball, the legendary June Ball, £215 per double ticket and worth every penny. I want to say things about how awesome it was, but I'm so tired I don't think I can do it justice. I will come back, later or in a few days, with photos. In short: SO GOOD.

On an unrelated note: meme. Comment on this post and I will choose seven interests from your profile. You will then explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

Interests chosen by bluebeing:

Finnish: I occasionally attempt to learn Finnish. I hear somewhere - I think it may have been on a Michael Palin program? - that it's often considered the hardest language in the world (16 cases! no prepositions! crazy grammar!), and, well, I like a challenge. Only, I actually haven't got very far. Hello, goodbye, I am English, are you English? are about all I can do. And a bit of ecletic vocab that I got from listening to Indica, a Finnish mystic folk-rock group whose music I discovered randomly and instantly fell in love with. So yeah. Not very successful, but I do like it.

Tom Baker's interchangeable head: sparked by this mention by calapine of a discussion over in pontisbright's journal (so convoluted, oh gosh), and quickly added to many people's interests. Basically a crazy fandom in-joke, which makes me laugh a lot.

Wooooeeeeeeeoooooooh: The Doctor Who theme tune, you know the bit. Found it on someone else's interests lists, and added it.

Time travel: I love time travel. I love the physical 'impossibility' and finding ways in which actually, technically it is possible but probably not practical, and anyway what about causality, and the arrow of time, and the grandfather paradox, and all that. I also love it in a cheap 1960s Sci Fi stories sense; I randomly started craving such things a couple of months ago and ended up searching bookmooch for some. Yay, books.

Languages: I have waffled about languages here and am too tired to say much more; in fact I don't think there is much more to say. I love languages. I love their grammar and their vocabulary and their crazy idioms. I love bad translations (I bought 'English as she is spoke' the other week - more on that later, perhaps) and good French literature and all sorts of things in between. I love speaking languages to people in other countries, and understanding things in films and things. Currently I'm not officially studying any languages, but I did complete a course in Elementary Russian with the language centre this year, and managed 64% in the end of year exam - which I'm actually rather pleased with, considering I found I really didn't have time to study properly on top of my degree.

Spallation: just an awesome word, really. Mentioned in my crystallography course last year, it's a way of producing neutrons (in that context at least; otherwise see Wikipedia). Another good word is electrophorus.

Bashing Schroedinger's cat: Another in joke, this time from 12 Neville Street last year, that arose from a discussion of quantum mechanics, Schroedinger and possible investigation by the RSPCA, and goodness knows what else. A new euphemism for revision: bashing one's cat or (possibly specific to Physics or Quantum Mechanics revision) bashing Schroedinger's cat. Start using it, I'd love it if it ever made it worldwide. *g*

Also, I think hathy_col tagged me for a meme a while back, but I was busy with exams and now I can't find it. Sorry about that. *failz*

And I passed my exams. Not brilliantly, some of them only just, but some of them far better than I expected. And overall I got 54%, so reasonable, I guess. Yes, I am relived.

And so, so tired. I want to go to bed, and it's only half six. *siiigh*

meme, language, june ball, crazy
