Well. I am back in Durham, and moved into my new room, which just about didn't kill me. (106 steps up. ONE HUNDRED AND SIX. And many journeys with heavy things.) I quite love my room already; I can just about see Owengate out of my window, which is the road up to Palace Green, and I have a little raised bit by the window and and and it's nice. *g*
Very quiet though, at the moment. Last night was particularly quiet, but I spent most of my time unpacking and trying to sort out my net connection - despite being through quarantine, and meeting all requirements, I still can't get back online, and get bumped all the way back to the registration page when I try. Not good.
Today, freshers arrived. Crazy little beings. I went out at about ten to help out with carrying luggage to rooms and such. I got mistaken for a fresher myself - apparently I looked lost, which, um, possibly says something about how rubbish I am with people; most of the other people helping out were second years, of whom I know hardly any. *sigh* Having said that, early on in the morning I was poked on the arm and greeted with 'hello, I'm
bluebeing!', so that was exciting. *g* (I'm killing punctuation. Do Not Care. Sorry.)
I helped out for an hour or so - cunningly went down to Moatside, because a) I used to live there and thus know where rooms are, and b) there are less stairs than in Castle. Oh boy, stairs. The morning started off quite slowly, and as a result we had about ten people pouncing on each car as they pulled up one by one, but it was useful when more people started arriving. By the time I had to go, though, still hadn't seen that many freshers. And no sign of the kids.
So, I went off at elevenish to sung Eucharist in the cathedral. I like sung Eucharist, and today was one of my favourite settings (Darke in F). The sermon was incredibly long and waffly and largely about the Deacon's pets, which he contrived to make sound like a lurid love affair, but the music was good. On my way back into Castle, I was greeted by yet another person who thought I was a fresher - 'I'm a third year!' I exclaimed, and then felt quite bad because he was awfully contrite and apologetic - and proceeded to make the entire keep smell of curry. Oops.
I went into town earlier to buy doorstops, but managed to get some that don't work, so I shall have to do that again tomorrow. I do have toothpaste though; win! (Could have sworn I'd packed some, but apparently not. Ah well.)
And that is my exciting life. Oh yes, and I missed out the bit where I couldn't be bothered to find a fridge yesterday, so have been keeping my fridgeables on my window-ledge, and was thus woken this morning by a small bird attemping to get into my chicken korma.
I love uni. It's crazy.
PS
elyim, I hope you're having fun. You have my mobile number, right? Let me know if you're around and free at any point. *g*
