Prayer for a Friend

Hanging my head low,
I am ashamed to meet the eyes,
the eyes of the eagle,
watching as I make my mistakes.

I pray to put my attention on
the good things of life,
on my family and friends,
on my job and my neighborhood,
on my talents and gifts,
on my relatives and community,
on my church and sacred activities.

Grandfather hear me,
Hanging my head low,
may I soon be able to lift my eyes
with pride and meet the eagle's gaze.
Humbly now though, I ask for your help
in focusing my attention on what is good.
