This is merely my opinion, obviously.
RANT!
I had to get this out of my system...
So far, I have been highly disappointed by season 4 of Fringe, the whole first half of the season was devoted to showing how miserable and inept everyone was without Peter.
I am so sick of having anyone not named Peter, Olivia or Walter relegated to the background for the entire episode, having few (if any) lines and doing NOTHING. I still haven’t watched anything from the latest episode except for the ending, I have no desire to watch Peter and Olivia making eyes at each and talking about a relationship she suddenly remembers (wait, what if she had a boyfriend?) for 40 minutes … Don’t get me wrong, I like Peter and Olivia’s relationship, I just don’t want to watch it EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. I don’t know if I want to watch this Friday’s episode either, but since it should be about September and has DRJ in it, I might watch (but the Grimm episode looks pretty freaking cool also!) The Fringe preview shows Liv being kidnapped by DRJ like we saw at the end of last week’s episode, okay, that part looks cool, but what do you want to bet that the people they focus on the most finding Liv are Peter and Walter, probably a few scenes with Lincoln and Broyles interviewing someone and getting nowhere until the golden duo figures out what’s going on. Joy. I quit Castle, The Mentalist, Hawaii 5-0 and considering dropping Once Upon a Time because of the same thing...
We know so much about Peter, Walter and Olivia but it took them three and a half YEARS to even learn a shred about Astrid, Nina has been glaringly absent multiple episodes every season and we still know next to NOTHING about her, we learned more about Charlie in the episode he died in and one following his death then in a whole season, Broyles is divorced and has kids, what else do we know about him? IT SHOULDN’T BE THIS HARD TO DEVELOP OTHER CHARACTERS! COME ON PEOPLE!
But the stars are supposed to get more screen time then everyone else, right? Sure, why not. That doesn’t mean you have to IGNORE everyone else. I would like to mention Criminal Minds, seven seasons and going strong and I have NEVER felt cheated about one characters development compared to another. Every SEASON has had an episode devoted to every character, sometimes multiple episodes. Another reason why Criminal Minds is the best show on TV right now!
Oh, back to Fringe for a moment, where the heck is (alt)Charlie? Surely he can’t be on his honeymoon for half a season (though I don’t blame him for wanting to get away)
:(
