[guess who's chipper as ever this afternoon?]
Fellow denizens of the Barge, I know what you are thinking.
"Again, Admiral?"
"A little early in the month to be nipping into the sherry, aren't we?"
But what we experience (or have yet to experience, as it appears whatever this is, I feel perfectly fine. I hope more of you do too) is just the fringes of another world. It makes one wonder what we would become were the ship to land there. I'm told the changes are more extreme if the barge comes upon "the rocks". Can you imagine, based on previous floods? A whole world where people exist in a constant state of infatuation, perhaps? How miserable.
[An odd pause, as he takes up an empty glass at his desk and considers it thoughtfully]
What comes after? Most definitely not worth it. Nights spent sleepless, brimming in waking visions, that dark circus of screams...or at the bottom of a goblet and dreamless. What a choice!
But then, I suffer none of the first and little need of the other -- on nights when I do not sleep alone. Such a potent curative for sad memories is the prospect of pleasurable company. [Reaver looks thoughtful, and more like he's talking to himself, lost in thought.] I can hardly remember being happy with anyone that truly mattered -- only the aftermath -- but it must feel something like that, surely.
[He shakes his head, realizing then that he's still talking. He sets the glass aside and straightens up, immediately assuming the haughty, confident stance he held before, then reaches to press a button on the console.]
[Private to Loki]
My friend... [another pause, as though what he'd intended to ask he seriously questions after blurting that. He glowers, then closes his journal.]
