I understand the reasons they don't hand these things out like candy, and why they like making it a very rare occasion but lets stop looking at his mental condition which no one can prove, and start looking at what we know he did. He saved lives. Someones dad, someones brother, someones son, cousin, friend etc etc. Maybe even some of those people who have jumped on a grenade don't deserve a medal because they were actually suicidal and did it for an escape. Have we monitored all of the former Medal of Honor members mental conditions, or is this a first?
Shitballs, even if it was an accident doesn't make it any less heroic! Look at pencillin! Half of the things that NASA has made have been failures for them, but it still helps other people (ahem POST ITS). Fuck, look at Jar Jar Binks heroic spasptic actions at the end of Starwars Episode 1.
The military taught me to judge people by actions. The Navy Cross is no small potato, but the Marine suffered injuries and still saved others lives which definitely ended his.
