Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!!

In my district, teacher appreciation week started with the announcement that there would be severe budget cuts. No new staff would be hired, retiring/resigning teachers would NOT be replaced and there would be at least 9 teachers "furloughed" (not sure how this is different from laid-off). They wouldn't say how many assistants, custodians, secretaries or food service workers would be cut. At least 4 teachers will be involuntarily transferred from regular ed back into special ed classrooms, and all special ed teacher's certificates/assignments were being reviewed to see if people needed to be involuntarily transferred into a more "appropriately aligned position." So far this week 4 teachers and 3 assistants were given their official notice that they won't have jobs next year, more to come...

My building principal sent around a one line email thanking us for our hard work and saying how he appreciates everything we do. The sports boosters provided "breakfast," little cans of juice halved strawberries and mini bagels. They brought a bag of 50 mini bagels and a big Tupperware bowl of strawberries. My building has 200+ staff people...

I feel so appreciated!!
