... and that means I have more things to show. :-)
Tatting is so addictive, isn't it? *grins*
Slytherin Choker.
I had wanted to make something to wear to both the midnight releases of the fifth movie and the seventh book. I finished this just two days before the movie release, and I love it!
I had asked for help in finding good choker patterns, and I was given lots of suggestions. Even so, I had never worked with beads before, so this choker was my very first attempt. I love how it turned out. :-)
Next up, there's the one I call "The Unlovable Bookmark."
Why so unlovable? Because I didn't notice the flaw in the very beginning until I tied off the piece. I'd been tatting the pattern from memory while outside on my swing, and my chatting distracted me a bit too much, I think.
The flaw.
This one is more what the pattern should have looked like, though in a different color and much smaller thread:
And here's a completely different bookmark pattern:
And my mother-in-law had requested two special bookmarks to give as gifts to her good friends with summer birthdays. One is not until the end of August, but the only date was looming up quite quickly, competing with my time to finish the choker in time for the movie release. I finished it six days before she needed it, and the bookmark arrived in the mail on the actual birthday - just in time!
As to the other, I completed it already as well - way ahead of the August deadline!
A friend requested a purple bookmark - "not too frilly." I've had good luck with
Kersti's "Tatted Pattern," so I used that one and just changed the length a bit. I also added beads at some of the joins, and I think it turned out nicely.
And then I began a fun pattern I'd been saving a link to for a few weeks. I made it for a friend who gave me no direction other than wanting "something pink and black." It turned out very cute, and I figured out how to add in a second shuttle halfway through (I didn't know I'd need to do that when I started the pattern, and it was a frightening learning experience! I was SO PROUD of myself when I figured it out, though!)
And lastly, I just finished this cross pattern two nights ago (Monday). I used DMC embroidery floss for the first time, and that was a trip keeping the threads from separating too much in the picots and looking ugly. It was also my first attempt at using split-rings, which I only figured out how to make by watching a video on YouTube on Sunday afternoon. Again, I was so pleased at finally picking up another valuable tatting technique! I may be slow at learning this stuff, and I wish I had someone to teach me in person, but I'm just glad to be getting the hang of it. :-)
The pictures of this really don't do the floss justice - it can be better seen
here, if you're interested.)
And that's all for now. Thanks for looking! :-)
