OUT WITH 2013...
Goals from the year were:
1.) EXERCISE MORE Nope. Kept up with my crunches and weightlifting, but slacked off BIGTIME on walking/running and didn't join a gym. Maybe I will in February once the New Year's Resolutioners get broken.
2.) LESS SHIT THAT'S BAD FOR ME - Kinda. But not really. I have cut out sodas and artificial sweeteners for the most part, and I've definitely been more mindful about what I eat... I'm still falling short of eating healthfully, though.
3.) MORE INVOLVEMENT IN FEWER THINGS - Also kinda. I still do too much stuff, but I've been better about saying no or at least making sure I follow through on what I commit to doing. What I really need to do better at is delegating band stuff to those who do too little. "I don't know how" is not a good excuse, and I need to be patient enough to help them learn how to do things, I guess.
4.) KEEPING MY KNOW-IT-ALL COMMENTS TO MYSELF MORE OFTEN - I have definitely gotten somewhat better at this, but I'm not sure if it's altogether been a positive effect on my life. I think I just talk to people less, or when I do pull out the know-it-all card, I'm more venomous about it. I guess I should continue working on not being a pompous asshole.
I said I would also like to: A) Sell my house in Lancaster. - Nope. B) Buy a house in Charlotte. - Even bigger Nope. C) Get a new job that doesn't make me take 9 weeks of unpaid leave every year. LOL. - Still nope, but I did find a supplementary winter job that makes cash, and I got a raise. That's at least half a point.
IN WITH 2014...
1.) EXERCISE MORE. Like, for real. At least get back into my once-or-twice-a-week walking. I will probably take a walk later today :) Once the New Year's Resolution folks peter out, I will join OMNI again, because I really liked it there, and even if I do move to Charlotte (ha!) I will still be down to Rock Hill twice a week for band practice. Plus, it's just off the interstate, so not a bad commute, really.
2.) MORE MINDFUL MEALS. I will continue my quest for food that makes me feel better and is not loaded with additives and extra empty calories. I will make more effort to cook at home, and eat less pre-packaged stuff.
3.) PRACTICE. AND NEW SKILLS. I will continue to practice vocals on the way to and from work every day, and I will make myself practice guitar at least once a week. So I don't totally suck. I would really like to do a solo/side project at some point, and I need to be able to play, damnit! I also want to spend time each week learning more about web design and development, since it seems like that's where the design field is going, that's where I need to go to stay current. I'll grab an HTML5 workbook and get Kraken. Err.. crackin'.
4.) GET ORGANIZED. This house is a wreck beyond our normal living spaces. That needs to change. I want to send cards to my family members for their birthdays and actually get Christmas presents to my nephews, even if I am working like a dog. I will definitely need to keep band things more organized and have a system for record-keeping that is all out on paper (or pixels) instead of in my head so others can pick up where I leave off and vice-versa. We will have an organized and communicated approach to promotion for each show so that Josh and I are not doing 90% of the work each time.
5.) NOT GETTING ANGRY. One thing I've slipped on this year is anger. I've lost a couple of close friendships this year because I lost my cool at the wrong time. Anger problems have not reared their ugly heads for me in awhile, but I think I need to work harder to STOP. BREATHE. THINK. before I say anything.
What I'd like to do in 2014? A.) Refinance house. B.) Rent room in Charlotte. C.) Get new (to me) car. D.) Save more money for capital projects. E.) Finish album.
