A crowne of Sonnetts dedicated to Love...

After reading Renaissance English poetry for the last two hours, I now understand why spelling in English is difficult. Maybe because 400 years ago we spelled words like this:

His flames ar joyes, his bands true lovers might,
noe staine is ther butt pure, as purest white,
wher noe clowde can apeere to dimm his light,
nor spott defile, butt shame will soone requite,

It seems at some point in the last three centuries somebody decided to add a whole lot of 'e's at random and then take out a whole bunch of double 'e's and double consonants. After reading this, it just makes English seem even more illogical. And it maykes mee wante too wryte lyke thyse.
