(Due to technical difficulties, this post is going live about six hours after it was written.)

Waiting for the oven to pre-heat so that I can slide dinner onto the rack, (A lovely dish of baked cod with Irish cheese crust, inquire for recipie because it came out delish) and I put on a default Irish CD for background music. It is St. Patrick's Day, after all. So the CD turns out to be The Chieftans - Long, Black Veil.

I'm still not sure if it was a mistake or not.

See, I can't really listen to that CD, one track in particular which is playing now without bringing back strong memories. It was spring, an impossibly long nine or ten years ago. I was at the one Irish place in Durango, I think it was called Murphy's Pub, or something. It was a beautiful night, and I was having dinner on the back patio with the then love of my life, my half-Celtic rose. There was live music, the food and the atmosphere were perfect, and everything was right with the world. I bought the Chieftans CD the next day, and even now, I can't hear "Have I Told You Lately" with Van Morrison and the Chieftans without thinking of her.

We've both moved on, of course. The whole world's moved on. It's what it does when you're not paying attention.

And while the song still hits me when I hear it, like it's hitting me now, it's actualy much bigger. See it's not about me. Or her, for that matter - its about everyone.

So this goes out to all my friends, even the ones I don't keep in touch with as much as I would like to. You are all so important to me. My life may be complete and secure as an individual, but having all of you in it to share with me has made it richer. I really couldn't have gotten this far without you.

So thank you. I love you all so very much.

And have a happy and most of all, safe St. Patrick's Day weekend.
