Hikaru no Go totally just blindsided me. I mean, I'd read some of the manga when it was first published in Shonen Jump US, and didn't think much of it. But now, having read Death Note, and looking for more of Obata-san's works, I thought it wouldn't hurt me to take a second look. I mean, Obata could draw anything and make it look interesting. I think Del Rey's paper quality is better than Tokyopop's, myself. . .

Del Rey definitely picks up a lot of newer, good titles - I REALLY like School Rumble, and Genshiken is done well too.

I think part of the reason that they're doing so well is that they're much more extensive and powerful than Viz and Tokyopop - Del Rey already had a standing agreement with the major bookstores here (unlike the other two), so their manga also really gets to us fast through Coles and Chapters, etc - It's not like Fruits Basket, where Chapters might bring in about 3 copies of the latest book in it about 4 months after it's released. . . they also just plain do a good job. The only downside is that their manga on its own costs more than any other company's.

You actually have time for fandom. I come home from class at whatever time, slave over schoolwork for the rest of the day, crash in bed at 11:30 and wake up at 7:30 to DO IT ALL AGAIN. I bought A Scanner Darkly last semester in september. I am on chapter 5, because I never have time to read or anything. I buy manga, and I might get around to reading it in two weeks. I finally understand why Rob has a bookshelf of books he's never touched.

Which is why Jean chose to take five fairly basic courses, instead of spreading herself thinly over six tough as nails credits. I don't function so well under intense pressure.

Yeah, I have that whole bookshelf in my room full of books, many of which I haven't gotten around to yet. And I've had them for how many years now? >.>
