At 8:30 A.M., my grandfather passed away. For many who didn't know, my dad waved his rights away to me when I was 1. Growing up, Pampaw was the one who took a fatherly position and helped raise me. He was like a dad to me.
During Graduation when I walked across the Vines Center, I received my diploma and towards the end of the applause, I heard the phrase, "Oorah." The Marines used this as a war cry and way to empower those around them. He was in a wheelchair and he bellowed it out with every bit within. It was the greatest thing I had ever heard in my life and always will be. He was there when my dad was not.
So, to my grandfather, thank you for showing me what it is to be a warrior, to be strong, to be a man. I love you.
