So I spent the weekend in New York City as part of my graduation gift from my parents. It was quite fun. Justin went with my parents and I. We stayed Thursday - Monday. Most of the time Justin and I did our own thing around town while my parents did the more touristy things. Mostly Justin and I just walked around the island.
We went to four shows while we were there; all musicals. Friday night we saw The Lion King by Disney and Julie Taymor. Too many years of expecting the modern miracle of theatre led to a bit of a let down. It was pretty frickin' amazing however. Beautiful set and costumes...nice tech stuff...bad gay dance break.
Saw Hairspray Saturday matinee. It was pretty amazing. Definitely deserved the Tony's it got. Yay.
Assassins was the Saturday night show. It was damn good. My parents and Justin didnt like it as much...but it wasnt all singing and dancing and good times. It was talking about killing presidents and becoming famous. I liked it a lot. Beautiful set and lighting...wonderful actors..including Michael Cerveris and Doogie Howser, MD (aka Neil Patrick Harris). Good stuff.
On Sunday we saw Avenue Q. OMG. It was great. Funny. Smart. Foul-mouthed. Puppets having sex. Best thing I've seen in a long time.
Didnt get time to slip in Wicked..maybe next time.
Anyway...got some clothes and souvenirs.
Fun Fun.
