Today was the first official day of Dr Wheel's holiday*.  Naturally, I woke up at 5:45 and then woke him up going "Entertain meeee!"  Well actually he wanted to get to the supermarket early to avoid the Christmas rush and buy a chicken ( Read more... )

Okay so what's pav and how do you make it?

It's basically a giant meringue covered in whipped cream. And some fruit, but usually kiwifruit and strawberries for Christmas.

It was invented in NZ. Don't let any lying Aussies tell you different.

Hmmmm. Baked meringue. So is it crunchy? I'm familiar with meringue cookies which are actively crunchy (a texture that makes me shiver) and meringue topping on lemon pies, which is more like marshmallow in consistency.

Crunchy on the outside, marshmellowy on the inside. Invented in Australia, ignore the New Zealand jealousy. 😀

Mine has cream, strawberries and chocolate on top.

So far it's pretty awesome. Coffee and presents in bed while tracking sharks, now I'm on the internet while Dr Wheel goes for his traditional Christmas run, and then the familial onslaught begins.

I wouldn't mind having pav for dessert on Christmas. It looks delish.

The family from my dad's side comes over to ours on Christmas Day and everybody brings a cake or cookies or stuff. And we go to a restaurant to dinner ... so ... not too much work either.

Wow, we would struggle to find a restaurant that was open! I guess that's what you get for living in the arse end of nowhere. :)

Pav is awesome, if you get the chance!

The "big" day here is the 24th - I doubt any restaurants are open tonight.
