When in Rome...

How time flies!
Today is the first day for poor (i.e. permanently busy) me after many (sorry, can't give you the exact figure) months that I have nothing to translate and therefore have enough time and mental powers to drop a line iin my old and semi-forgotten LJ,
My last ordeal has been two volumes about the Roman Emperor Vespasianus (the one who said money doesn't stink) with Tiberius, Caligula and Claudius doing their occasional stints. Actually I love historic stuff, but I was tired like hell translating the descriptions of battles, and those were on every other page. Two things made me really sick - all that gore that the author (somebody called Robert Fabbri) seemed to relish and the syntax that had no parallels in the Russian language, so that practically every sentence had to be restructured. It's not persiration that covered my brow in the process, it was my gray matter oozing from every pore. I do hope I still have some brain left for me to do new translations. How can I survive otherwiise?
