Though the tensions between Russia and Georgia have been rising since .... Georgia split form the Soviet Union, the last few months have been rather spectacular in the f***-you catagory. With Georgia opening salvos yesterday morning by trying to establish military control over one of their break-away regions and Russia responding by invading Georgia (not in the break-away region) Things are going to get very ugly very fast I think. Especailly since Georgia is an ally of the US's and has the 3rd largest contingient of solderiers in the "coalition" in Iraq. They have requested the US to provide planes for the transport of Georgian soldiers back to Georgia. From my limited sources, the US has said they will comply. I can only see direct armed conflict between the US and Russia coming from all of this.
