The date has been pinging me all day as meaning something, but I don't know anyone with a birthday (though I missed
nene's last week - happy belated, dear! ♥ ). However, Dido just came on the radio and that reminded me: May 14, 2002 was when the series finale episode of Roswell aired. There was a farewell party/viewing somewhere in the LA area that some cast and crew attended; can't remember who now, though I expect Nick was there since he always was, and I think Kevin Kelly Brown (producer) and Garrett and Russell (writers) went. I didn't go. I was, however, one of the group of people involved in the fanfic tote auction that went live on eBay right after the episode aired, all proceeds of which went to charity. *waves at the others involved who're on her flist* In fact, I was the one who hand stencilled the black tote bags with a silver whirlwind galaxy symbol, one of the many alien symbols used in the show, and we all worked on some facet of gathering, printing, and binding copies of popular fanfiction, with cover art, and grouping them into tote bags along with fanart posters and some other goodies. It really was a brilliant collection of stuff to auction off.
Thinking about it now, it was a special conglomeration of time and place and people that made that auction even possible. We wouldn't be able to pull it off the same way now - and having done it once, I think most of us swore 'never again' anyway, LOL! But when I was home and lamenting to my mom about the fact that my ooold Body Shop tote had finally kicked it and I'd bought a replacement but didn't like it that much (it doesn't stay on my shoulder very well), she brought out a plain black tote and said hey, this is yours, why don't you take it? It was the one extra left over that I didn't paint. I almost wish it were stencilled - it's been long enough that it would just be a cool design! :D But it's cool nonetheless that it's in England with me now. :-)
