Spent a good chunk of last evening enjoying re-reading al_teregoz's epic Ready or Not at All, plus a few others of hers, ending with one of my all-time favourites, Becoming Who We Are. It was lovely and much-needed to just lose myself in well-written stories about my favourite characters that I can trust will have happy endings. While my own fic tends to have happy endings too - hopeful/upbeat if not necessarily HEA - it's not so much fun to read mine. Nor to write through to said ending on a WIP when I want to submerge like that. Too much Editor Brain in the way.

Dunno if I should be blaming Al for the seriously weird dreams then. In one, I blew off a brand new job as a stripper (?!) to go to a FOB concert with stumphed (?!?!?!) in which we sat at side stage, except that I actually spent most of it curled up on a little mattress on the stage floor, dozing and facing *away* from the band. LOL. And then they started to self-destruct, and I somehow ended up giving oral sex pointers to Patrick and having an honest-to-God conversation with Pete about him being a dick. I remember thinking that he seemed very fragile and feeling a bit melancholy at the likelihood that he would burn himself to cinders within the next few years, and also that we agreed he'd be most likely to finally settle down in New York City. In the other dream, I was a guy named Brian and had some kind of gay fetish experience that involved a BLT sandwich. O_O I think I'm glad the details are a lot fuzzier on that one, though now I have a craving, of course. Stupid brain.

Lastly, another fic meme of sorts, where you post a line from your WIP(s). Not necessarily the first line, just any self-contained single sentence from the body. I have a few WIPs, but not *that* many that are in the physical realm (many, many more in residence in my head!) so I figured I'd just schlep down a line from each of them. No, I'm not going to identify them in any way whatsoever - not even by fandom. ;P Feel free to guess, though! I'll tell you if you're right or not. Of course, there is also the caveat that not all of these will survive intact to the final edit of any story, and not every story will be finished, either. Thought it'd be fun anyway. :)

1. His teeth gleamed in the semi-darkness as he proclaimed, "And here is the true definition of a geek: entrusted with keys to the classroom with all the expensive stuff in it."

2. 'It might be a double standard but it's at least a reciprocal one, if you want it to be.'

3. His perpetual motion freezes, blond-tipped curls dancing to a halt split seconds after his body, and then he laughs, sardonic and amused and somehow pleased.

4. Now she moved, rising to her feet with liquid grace and tucking her hands in the back pockets of her jeans, elbows jutting to either side of her almost as if she'd put her hands on her hips.

5. Ninety-nine percent of the world and its expectations could fuck right off but not these two people.

6. You couldn’t know the way that divorce, no matter how amiable, turned you inside out and poured acid all over you until you didn’t have a fucking clue who you even were anymore.

7. God, some mornings, the prospect of this exact moment was the only thing that got him out of bed.

8. He waited for the panting to slow to regular breathing and the shudders to smooth out, and then he lit a cigarette, remarking coolly, "You can go back to your room now."

9. A low whine escaped into the room, followed by another, and another, every exhalation bringing with it the unconscious sound of need.

10. The corresponding exhalations curled in streamers over his head, gradually dissipating as they rose only to be replaced in a steady, familiar rhythm.

11. Better to seem sweet and naïve at first, while he figured out how much of the real him it would be safe to show.

12. Talking like there's nobody else in the entire fucking world, which there isn't, because everyone else has been shut out from the vivid chatter that flows from one man to the other as they finish each other's sentences in the same way, with the same laughter, that they've had since they were kids.
