Under the summer rain I burnt away

A brief CD review of decemberunderground, because I was finally able to listen to it today - I waited till I could *really* listen and devote my attention to it, repeatedly, and I'm in love. It's brilliant ultimately because it's twelve brand new songs by a band I love that SOUND like they're by the band I love. There are some changes, sure - the ( Read more... )

It's so odd, to see someone say that...that...feels like AFI. I haven't felt AFI since Black Sails came out, not really. AFI as I know them aren't coming back. I can only listen to Art of Drowning, Sing the Sorrow, and this new one if I don't think about what they were.

Regardless, I'm glad you enjoy it. Sorry for the moment o'jaded. ;P

No worries. Will I lose every cool point ever when I admit that I'd never even heard of AFI until the end of 2004? There's not really a lot of awareness of or access to the Cali underground scene on the east coast of Canada. I was introduced to them via Sing the Sorrow, and while I've listened to their older stuff it obviously isn't how I got to know them, so the filter is different when you come at it backwards. I can point out several elements that make me feel like I'm listening to an AFI song - even in Miss Murder, which is decidedly mainstreamed - but structurally decemberunderground is a lot like StS, anyway.

I come out of the closet; yes, folks, I am an AFI fan cosmicdancer June 13 2006, 10:24:20 UTC
Whoa, there isn't a hidden song? Boys, I'm disappointed. ;) Either way, I do like it, although it made me burst out in laughter on some occasions (what's with the hip-hope music?; also, could Miss Murder be any more Green Day?). But it's good.

Oh man, the cheesy passionate speech in Kiss and Control makes me wince-giggle, lol. But it's good camp and it sounds fun. I am disappointed with no hidden song, especially considering how much I adore the last two, but w/e. :)

It's what got me to buy the album. Just thought I'd share.

I haven't listened to it, yet, though I've been meaning to do so.

And oh man, "This Time Imperfect"... *clutches heart* Lovely song.

One of my alltime favourites, yeah. (And I'm hoping to be able to say the same about another future album being brilliant in another year or so... *points at icon* ;-) )

I haven't ripped it yet but if you need it, let me know and I can upload. :)
