Arthur Phillip Apodaca
Arthur Phillip Apodaca 67 years old, passed away unexpectedly at his Green Valley home on Thursday, February 7, 2008. He was born on August 4, 1940 to Reyes and Elvira Apodaca. After graduating from Salpointe Catholic High School (class of '58), he enlisted in the Naval Reserves and went active for two years. A native Tucsonan, he served his city well. At the age of 26 he dedicated his life to the Tucson Fire Department. He was an active firefighter for 25 years, was a staunch member of the Firefighters Union, and served as president of the Southern Arizona Central Labor Council. Upon retiring, he devoted his energy to the Firefighters calendar (helping to raise money for burn victims and Camp Courage), and Last Alarm Foundation (a tribute to fallen firefighters). His pride for the fire department was surpassed only by his love for his family. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years, Rosalie (Daniels); and is survived by his wife of 10 years, Joyce (Hedblom); his sons, Phillip and Christopher; his brothers, Rudy and Joe Apodaca; his sisters, Sylvia Metz and Madeline Sherman; and 16 wonderful grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. John The Evangelist Church, 602 W. Ajo Way, on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any donations be made in Art's honor to either the TFD Last Alarm Foundation (P.O. Box 18408, Tucson, AZ 85731) or the Foundation for Burns and Trauma (P.O. Box 1329, Phoenix, AZ 85001).
