Test of manhood passed

Today I faced what is surely the greatest challenge to my manhood thus far.  In the morning, while picking up something that might cause the scooba to go nuts before I turned it on, somehow one of my buttons popped.  The shirt is not really that tight, so I'm not sure what happened.  I grabbed the button and put it in my pocket, figuring someone at work would have a sewing kit.

Not so!  I had to go to walgreens to get one.  After walgreens I went to do a couple of things at the farmer's market.

I came back, and got the sewing kit ready.  I got distracted by a coworker, then finally was ready to begin.

But the button was gone!!

After searching for a while, long and far, high and low, even going so far as to check the trash for something I just discarded a few times, I gave up and decided to remove the spare button from the shirt.  I then sewed that on successfully, like any real man would.  Afterwards, I decided it was lunch time (at 3pm) and went into my change container to get some change.  Lo and behold, I realized the button must be there.  And so it was.

I then had the pleasure of sewing the button I found in the change container back into the spare button spot.  My coworker Sita joked that I should remove the spare button and sew that back in its spot and then sew the normal button back into its original spot.  They are both the same kind of button so I decided to pass.

The trickiest part was the spare button area.  I accidentally left too little room to tie the knot at the end.  I then expertly realized I could use the "other" end's end to tie knots around the end in question.  It's complicated, but it seems to have worked.  I just hope I didn't inadvertently create some sort of crazy trick knot that will come loose in 3 seconds by using a strange technique.

So, for all you manly men out there, here are some important skills to learn…

1.  How to thread the needle.  I stared at the needle threading tool for a while and am apparently sub-genius in intelligence because I had to google it.  I was so close… but google got that final distance for me.

2.  How to sew a button on.  I'm sure my technique was sloppy (I kind of went in one random side and back down another random side repeatedly… no pattern or balance to the sides chosen), but it got the job done.

3.  How to tie knots in really tiny thread.  This was surprisingly hard.  I feel like there should be a device to make this easier.  I'll maybe invent one.
