I'm having hard time deciding between a public blog (non-lj) or friends-only entries. Or, a private, written journal.

With a public blog, I'll feel compelled to follow a self-imposed format or only write about certain topics.

I personally do the public-blog-and-friends-locked-lj thing, and it's kinda nice.

Of course, I like to compartmentalize myself...

I think it's important to have some of all. Sometimes a public entry is nice, because you WANT everyone to know - for things that are important to you, but you feel should be shared. Friends only allows you to be more personal and let your close friends give input to problems and concerns. Private entries would allow you to really get it all out, which I find cleansing, without worrying about potential hurt feelings. I look back on old posts between my various journals and wish I'd let more out instead of only posting the skim of the surface. I'd like to be able to look back on those days and have more memories to work with - more raw feelings, less censored versions of those days.

So one good vote for LJ is that you can do all three on one journal. I'm sure other sites will also allow for this, but yeah... / rant
