Well I have been crazy busy the past few days, which you can read about under the cut if you have time, but if you have better things to do (which, really, I'm sure just about everybody does) I just wanted to give a heads up that I'll be posting a Karomel oneshot sometime tomorrow. I'm going to start one of my New Year's resolutions early which is that I want to post some writing every Tuesday whether it is a complete oneshot or a part of a larger story. We'll see how long I'll be able to keep it up :)
So first off, I've been telling my family I've been searching for a full-time job and I have, a little bit, but mostly I've just been lazing around with my kitty and catching up on all the fanfic and TV I've missed out on. I set my DVR to record all the new shows I was interested in, so I came home to this crazy backlog. I was actually kind of surprised by what a poor job I did about predicting what shows would be good or bad this year.
Shows I thought would be good which aren't
Allen Gregory - Ohmygosh, I can't even tell you how horrible this show is. I'm really bummed about it because I though it looked great (You got Jonah Hill with 2 Gay Dads, what more do you need?) There is not a single appealing character on the show which, honestly, it's not like any of the characters on Family Guy are that great, but the way they handled the gay characters really turned my stomach. Jeremy is basically trapped in the marriage and actually says it's like being raped every night. Ugh, thankfully the ratings are horrible so it should be gone soon.
The Playboy Club - I was really upset to find out this show had already been canceled since I thought the gay plot lines looked great (I actually did my senior thesis on the Mattachine Society) But having watched the 3 episodes that did air, yeah, it's not that great. But, silver lining, it got Sean Maher to come out *\o/*
Terra Nova - This one's actually alright, but considering the content it should be awesome. I'll keep watching it though 'cause while the other little gay boys were dressing up their GI Joes, I was dressing up my plastic dinosaurs :)
Shows I thought would be bad which aren't
2 Broke Girls, Suburgatory, Up All Night - I thought all these shows looked cliched and too straight, white, American for me to like (even though I'm meet 2/3 of those), but in actuality they are all fantastic and now own my soul.
Revenge - Ironically, I like this show for all the reasons I thought I would hate it. It's soap-opera with petty rich people and I'm hopelessly addicted. It's my new Desperate Housewves
Grimm - In hindsight, I don't know why I thought I would hate this show. I'm a sucker for all things fantasy and they have an uber-cute reformed werewolf that I want in my bed, like, yesterday.
Old shows that have gotten worse over the summer
House, Desperate Housewives, Supernatural - These were all great shows at the beginning and have just reached the end of their run in my opinion. I'm still watching Supernatural though because I would follow Jensen Ackles' smile anywhere. Also, in a much more minor way, Hawaii Five-O is still awesome in all things bromance and one of the few procedural shows I can watch, but what's up with this blond chick and where is my Kono? I don't like that development
Old shows that are still great
Bones, Castle, Glee, The Big Bang Theory - All great shows that warm my nerdy little soul. I'm so pleased Bones and Castle are still good after all these years and I'm so pleased that Jim Parsons won the Emmy since I don't think anyone deserved it more. I've excepted that Glee just has too many cast members and storylines to reach all it's truly epic potential, but it's still great and the scripts are a lot tighter with the staff writers. And how adorable was our little self-proclaimed bear cub???
Old shows that actually got better
I didn't think it was possible, but Modern Family, Happy Endings and BBC Merlin actually got better since last season and are quite possibly my most favorite shows of all time :)
Of course, TV isn't the only thing in my life. It just takes up a really big chunk of it :) I've also been reading a lot of fanfic that I missed. Feel free to rec anything that's cropped up in the past few months btw. I've dabbled in most fandoms at one time or another, so it doesn't have to be strictly Glee related either.
I almost signed up for the
kurtofskyrebang, but then I went over to check it out and I saw the whole thing with the "plagiarism" and it was all just a little distasteful for me, so I decided to pass on that. I'm a huge fan of the work of the artist in question and I just didn't think the mods treated her fairly. I'm going to be way too busy over the holidays anyway, lol.
Speaking of comms, I've been thinking about reviving
kurt_disney after the New Year, but haven't decided. It kind of imploded pretty badly during the last run, nearly all the participants didn't finish. It was the first time I'd been a mod, so I didn't know what I was doing and made several mistakes in the management of it, so a lot of it was my fault and I'm worried so many people had a bad experience that they'll be turned off on doing a second round. What do you think?
To end on a happy note, I had my first shift back at B&N yesterday and I'm so happy to be back. A lot of people don't like working in retail during the holidays, and while I totally understand their reasons, I actually really like it. From my experience, most of the people who buy books as gifts for Christmas are usually book lovers themselves and those are the best sort of people to help shop for :)
Whew, I think that's everything. I'm going to have to start posting more frequently so I don't have to overload ya'll with everything at once.
