Wow, I completely forgot to post about what I originally got on to post about. Clearly, laziness kills brain cells.
Anyway, remember I said I bid on 1farmer_girl for the help_japan fandom auction? Well, after I told her what I wanted her to write she told me that it would take her awhile to write it because she's in the hospital!! Oh and by the way, she's going to be out of commission for a while, so could I take over moderation of kurt_disney ? So now I'm modding (there has to be a better word then that) which I have no idea how to do that, but that's a whole other story. After we talked she said the reason she can't is that she doesn't have access to her laptop. And that she wished more people had bid on her audio post because she can record for hours while sitting in the bed with her digital recorder. So, I made her a little proposition.
First of all, I love podfic. I have a 30 minute commute to campus one way and podfic is what I listen to pretty much the whole drive, also when I clean and cook. Nothing makes doing laundry more bearable than listening to gay porn while doing it XD Anyway, I've always been disappointed that there isn't more podfic of the Harry/Draco variety which was my first discovery of fandom. Also, I've found myself coming into some unexpected money and had decided that I was going to give it all the the Japan Red Cross, even though the auction was already closed.
So this is the deal I made with 1farmer_girl : I would get author permission for some of my most favorite authors of the Harry/Draco community and then she would record them like it was a normal auction transaction instead of writing the story I originally requested. She was very sweet to agree to do this, not to mention brave because I told her that all the stories were very long, but she said it was for a great cause and she'd finish even if it took her a year. Which it just might. Her original auction post was that she would record ~1000 words for every dollar donated. I have just over $800, which comes out to a lot of recording. But she said she was game if I could be patient (which I am, honest). So I dug through all my favorite Harry Potter stories from my younger days before I was seduced away by the glitz and glamour of Glee. I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple authors, but most were amazingly receptive and wonderfully generous to offer up their stories for this cause. I even made a couple new friends of it. *hugs and kisses*
Here's the list so far if anyone's interested. The best of the best that Harry/Draco has to offer in my humble opinion. I highly recommend them all, even if you haven't dabbled in the fandom before.
