Town Called Mercy: An Ethical Debate

Another brilliant episode. And it was a nice change-up after the fun-loving Dinosaur one. It actually got fairly dark at some points where I was telling the Doctor through my computer screen, "NO,DON'TDOIT."  And can I just say THANK GOD for Amy? I was freaking out when he was pushing Jez or whatever his name was to the town line and my goodness, if Amy hadn't been there...
I was also a bit taken aback by Rory, too, who gave Amy the line, "Letting him save us? Yes, I am." Amy must have felt like she was taking crazy pills.

It was sort of a big ethical episode, wasn't it? This character had committed horrid war crimes yet his attempt at redemption had saved a whole town that would have easily been wiped out (or a significant amount of people left dead) if it weren't for him. And, you know, gave them nifty things like electricity. But like the Doctor said, that doesn't undo your past. But then you can argue the question: Can anyone ever have true redemption? Makes me wonder of a situation in my personal life where a man had committed a crime (the crime of which has some grey areas). He is now in prison, serving his time. The act of his crime is horrible. Absolutely atrocious. But does that criminal activity define who he is as a person? Should that effect every future prospect he might have?

In other news, I'm probably a hundred times more excited for the next episode. When I found out that it was "Doctor does domestics", I freaked. For some reason, I just eat this shit up. Like, The Lodger? OMGLOVED. And to see Amy and Rory in their lives outside of the Doctor-- seems like there were a couple of party scenes! :D I can tell that it's going to be an episode I'll enjoy immensly and also make freak out for a whole nother reason on the inside... Choosing between life with the Doctor and Leadworth life. Ugh. Doctor Who is making us learn so much about the Ponds and making us love them so much more only to take them away in two weeks... wtf.

doctor who, recap
