"You look hot, sweetie." Minako strapped her into a pair of heels, because Ami had no idea how to navigate the distance to her feet without flashing her blue cotton panties to all and sundry. Aww, Ami. She is so out of her depth here, but I think it's good for her, daring to do things foreign to her, strange to her nature. He has a good effect on her, doesn't he? Making her a bit more daring, getting her to open up to what she wants.
She didn't know what to think about the hidden note of surprise in his voice. Neither do I. Is this good, his surprise? Bad?
. "So. Did Mina steal that skirt off of a very tiny stripper?" *laughs* Oh, V will love this one. So do I. Vampire Darcy snarking away.
"And perfect on you. Also, I don't think I've told you yet about my sexy librarian fetish." His flirting is so adorable, he really has a knack of saying the right things to her.
If Taiki Kou were here, she would flirt equally shamelessly... in her head. Which was really almost the same thing. Oh Ami. You're too sweet for words.

Yes! And making her realize that there are things out there that she does want and never considered before.
I struggled a LOT with her decision to dress up for the club. Because I cringe at any story that involves a girl changing herself for a guy. But I can relate to Ami and know what it's like to discover something through someone else, and it's not for him, it's just because he introduced it to her.
Neither do I. Is this good, his surprise? Bad?
A bit of both, but I think he detected right away that she was in over her head and clearly uncomfortable. But you don't show up on a first date and tell your partner to go put something else on, even if your intentions are noble.

I do some cringing too when girls change who they are and "hot it up" to please a boy in a fic (or in a movie, I'm still not sure about Sandy in Grease, even though she looked great), but you dealt with it so sensibly and carefully that I don't mind at all. She wants to try this, it doesn't work, and then he helps her find some acceptable middle-ground. So yes: lots of love for this!
Sandy in Grease is the one I always think of, too! And I am also torn, because she rocks post-transformation, and yet she never seemed unhappy with who she was until everyone else gave her a hard time about it.
