(no subject)
Hmm. So. I have been back at school for about a month and half. I totally just bombed a Linguistics Test. We had to look at the Samoan Language and figure out how to write other words from the given materials. Then we had to like do phrase structure trees, which I tell you are stupid. Not to mention figuring out where derivational, and inflectional affixes, prefixes, circumfixes, and infixes were located within the morphemes. I SWEAR my public education failed me miserably.
I actually was really interested in Linguistics and was thinking about changing my major to Pathology and being a Speech Teacher. However, school doesn't offer that. Speech Therapy would also be interesting. What got me thinking of this were people suffering from Broca's Aphasia and Wernicke's Aphasia (I know this is totally way to much info, but it gets to a point I promise). Broca's is where the person suffers from agrammatical speech, and have problem with function words - These people usually can make sense of what people are saying to them, and people can usually understand what they say. Wernicke's is where they mix up function words, and a lot of times make absolutely no sense at all, and often can't understand or respond - when you see these people in public people think there they suffer from retardation or have torets. Oh all this happened from brain trauma people generally are not born with either or these things...
HERE IS MY POINT.
Saturday night I had a migraine!
It freaked me out because I never had experienced the visuals before. I couldn't speak; I came off absolutely ridiculous. I kept asking if I could waste myself. And one of my friends asked me what I thought of her purse, and I kept responding with, "Do you walk a lot?” Then, later on the night the whole right side of my body became numb - and this was sooo fascinating to me, because language is on the left side of the brain, which is also where the awful pain was coming from so it made perfect sense that my RIGHT side went numb and was seeing crap to the right side.
So obviously, I sucked at my content words.
This is prob super boring to you - but I have never really been able to apply much I have learned in class to myself and for once I CAN!!
Also, I got a 96% on my Psych Pres. It was awesome - and so everyone knows there is A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN Junior High School schooling and Middle School Schooling.
Meanwhile, Connor is coming in 3 weeks. I am so excited to see him. We are going to the State of Texas Fair and going to a Rodney Atkins Concert (That's country) and I have never been to one before so this is awesome!! Awww. I love him so so so much.
On a lame note, My literature classes have really been disappointing - They bore the shit out of me - I like, Can't stand the reading - I think I might take up History as well. - Or just completely switch - I'm def going to Minor in Criminology I think too. Agh. This is why I think people should hold off going to college.
One last thing. I have to write this intense economics paper, and I want to do it on the Education of Women in Haiti and how it will benefit the economy in the long run. I would like to concentrate on the aspect of Health/Awareness. (HIV/AIDS)
There are sickeningly sad factoids. It's heart breaking.
