my computer is being a piece of crap, the past couple weeks have only been getting worse. so i haven't posted an entry about the horror convention yet. there's so many pictures, there's no way it's not gonna freeze up/take forever. we're hoping to get a new computer soon.
yesterday was so surreal. who ever thought that i'd hear of michael jackson dying first through a bunch of text messages everyone was passing around with no actual confirmation yet, then on the radio. yeah i know he hasn't been in good health for a long time, but i definitely wasn't expecting him to die anytime soon. i thought it was cool that the radio was playing a bunch of his songs right after, we were jamming out at work. someone called in to the radio to comment about how now it will be socially ok to say you like michael jackson again, and that we can finally put his past in his past. that makes me happy.
i grew up on his music, as most people who were born in the 80's can say. his music holds a lot of great memories for me. being a kid listening to "thriller" at our next door neighbor's house over summer break, doing ridiculous dances to it. singing "heal the world" and changing the words to "heal the road" in the back of my mom's car with my sister and cousins. "black or white" is actually one of the first music videos i remember ever seeing. i've never stopped liking him, and have often been jokingly made fun of for being a fan. at least for this week i can blast his music and not be laughed at, cause everyone will be right there with me! anyone who doesn't understand his influence and impact must just be too young to remember him before he became "weird", and that's sad.
today also would have been richie's dad's birthday. other family members are going to the lemonheads concert, since they are a band that reminds everyone of him. richie has decided not to, for the fact that he thinks about his father *every* day. it's better for him to deal with it the same as any other day.
