She hovered in the doorway in silence. With arms folded across her chest, Romanadvoratrelundar observed as the Argolin whom Meena had appointed the task of system repairs and upgrading worked on her K9 unit. Normally she would have done the job herself but at the moment Romana was at her limit. With only just enough energy to watch she didn't trust

Granted, he'd had a bit of excitement there a long time ago, but now it really was a Leisure Hive. I.e., boring. He didn't particularly fancy reliving the memories he had of Romana, either. But despite his coaxing, the TARDIS still wouldn't budge. He stepped out eventually, grumbling under his breath.
He stopped dead in his tracks when he felt a presence in his mind. A presence he never thought he would feel again, because he was the last of his kind. Suddenly, he was very glad his TARDIS was more stubborn than he was.

There was something touching the back of her mind.
A presence.
There was another Time Lord here in the Hive just as she was.
No longer was she paying attention the the people around her. Despite how tired she was the Gallifreyan found herself hastening her pace as she maneuvered her way through the hall and into the closest open area of the facility. It wasn't just any Time Lord presence that felt. It was one that she recognized all too well.

He simply stared for a moment, his eyes haunted and afraid. Afraid that she wasn't real, that she would just disappear if he reached out and touched her.
"Romana?"

And despite the weary look in her eyes she still managed a smile as she drew closer. His expression troubled her but all the same, she was merely relieved to have found someone she recognized in this place. --In a manner of speaking, that is.
"Doctor? Is that really you?"

"My TARDIS is nearby. We can talk there," he murmured eventually, though he didn't particularly want to move.

"K9 is here with me. He's going under some repairs at the moment though."

With that, he pulled back reluctantly, taking her hand and leading her to the TARDIS. It was very strange, seeing Romana again. She had no idea what had happened to Gallifrey, and he wished he could keep it that way.
But she would notice, if she hadn't already. She would notice they were the only two Time Lords left in existence. And then he would have to explain.
"Here's the old girl," he murmured fondly, placing a hand on the door for a brief moment. She was still badly burned and battered, but he would fix that eventually. He let Romana in, wondering what she would think of the new interior.

With only the tips of her fingers did she trace the spaces between the buttons and levers, gaze lingering across the screen just overhead. After spending so much time in another dimension she never thought she would ever return. But she couldn't help the curious expression that crossed her features.
"Is Adric no longer traveling with you, Doctor?" Romana turned to ask, puzzled.

"Adric is gone, Romana," he replied quietly. "Happened a long time ago, for me." He wondered how she would react, knowing just how many regenerations it had been. "I've had other companions since, but it's just me at the mo'," he added, attempting a smile.

There wasn't any helping of the flicker of sorrow in her eyes. Seeking out the the console screen as means of a distraction she said, "Did he settle in well? In normal space, this space, I mean." She wasn't about to ask when it was the boy left, or what the Doctor exactly meant by 'gone'. It was better to leave it vague.
Granted she was relieved to hear that hadn't traveled alone after she and then Adric had left. After spending enough time with the man it was obvious to her that he needed someone around to keep him in line every now and again. And all the while the younger Gallifreyan was fiddling away at the controls, trying to see what it was she had missed exactly in her time away.

He paused for a moment though, considering her question. Remembering. "I'd like to think so, but then I picked up Tegan and Nyssa just before I regenerated...I think he felt a bit left out after that," he admitted, still feeling guilty for it. Maybe if he'd paid more attention, Adric wouldn't have...but he couldn't change it now, no matter how much he wanted to.

Scanning the records of various points in time, half of her focus was set on the rapidly shift text on the screen while the other was listening to the Doctor. "--But you were able to show him more than what only his world had."

"And I was, yeah. Think all my companions got to see a fair bit of that," the Doctor pointed out wistfully. "Blimey, I can't even remember how many I've had since..." He remembered them, of course, every single one of them, but he was terrible when it came to the numbers. He couldn't even remember how old he was anymore. Not that he'd remembered back in his Fourth regeneration.

"Well, I suppose in your old age it is forgivable for having a few gaps in your memory," she said with a bigger smile. "I'm surprised you even remembered my name."
Reply
"I've only regenerated five times since you last met me," he pointed out. "Haven't forgotten anyone's name yet."

But it was half-hearted remark. For some reason or another the TARDIS was not allowing her to research the most recent events on Gallifrey. Every time she tried the screen would simply refer back to the previous articles she had been reading. With a furrowed brow and a hand on her hip, her free hand was tapping at her chin lightly.
"-- This is most peculiar."
