66.2.D: “Touch is the magic wand of intimacy. Love is keeping in touch.” - Denis Waitley

You know you can trust her. Ever since the very beginning you've always known that this woman, known as a savage by most, is someone who you could count on no matter what.

She keeps you in line as only an outsider could. She could forgive you like no one else could. And she would always be puzzled by your decisions and yet understand how your mind ticks all at the same time.

Her eyes would always been on you when you spoke to the council. Her words would accompany your own when you argued with the council. She would argue with you as well as against you - she is a spirited creature with a tongue as sharp as her knife. And it's to her that you owe your thanks but rarely do you voice it out loud.

It is in other ways that you show your thanks.

Whenever another Time Lord had addressed her simply as savage you've corrected them harshly. Whenever she doesn't understand you take the time to explain because, really now, even to a Gallifreyan your ways can be somewhat confusing.

In times where she is need of company , your K9 unit follows her footsteps down the palace halls. And it is when you are too stubborn to admit to being lonely does she refuse to leave your side.

For a Time Lord to be so close to another, let alone one of their kind, is a rare occurrence indeed. And yet you have no trouble in sitting with her or walking along the lakeside talking of things other than the contradicting politics that you have somehow mastered to understand.

During troubled times you will put on the face of a leader and she would be there to encourage your words. She understands just as well as you what it means to be in this position. That is why you don't mind finding yourself alone during the early hours of the morning with her as the twin suns disappear for only a few hours before they peak behind the mountains and touch the orange sky.

"You do not need to wear a mask around me, Romana," she would say to you, the first light of the morning adding warmth to her skin. With fingers laced with hers, you realize just how cold your own hand really is. No amount of daylight could ever change this.

"Sometimes I forget when I am," you admit with a breathless laugh. "I've grown to be so accustomed to it I wonder when it is that I am myself."

Never had you been so close to anyone. When others have hugged you, she has embraced you. When there have been times when someone has offered you advice she was the one to show you the options that are there.

"You are not entirely like a Time Lord, Romana. While you may be as confusing and even frustrating as they are, you are more open to the concept of change. It is they who need to pull the masks and blindfolds from their faces to understand," she would rest her chin on your shoulder while gazing out at the scenery before the two of you.

In return you would not be able to help that chuckle, head leaning to the side, blond hair touching auburn brown.

"I do believe that they enjoy being blinded by their own arrogance."

"And that is why they are so hard-headed. Their minds are calloused from the number of walls they have walked into because of their blindness."

She is the one who can make you laugh. To remind you that it's all right to let go of that mask and be who you are.

As a Time Lord, you know nothing of love except when it comes to the stars and the streams of time. It is here that, after so many centuries since your graduation, you are a student once more.
