Hiyori taking care of Shinji kinda. I never thought of it like that before, but it does make some kind of sense.

On a tangent, I'm wondering how being born in Rukongai works -- people appear there when they die in our world, but being born...?

Yeah, it does, at least at this point in time.

I personally think that it depends on how you die. I mean, we know that spiritual beings can procreate, otherwise we wouldn't have noble families like the Kuchiki or blood siblings like the Shiba. My guess would be that the ones that are actually born are, to some extent souls that didn't require the help of a shinigami to cross over. I mean, not every soul hangs around and needs to be konso'd, a lot of them just go on their own so I always assumed that some number of those were "born" into Soul Society.

I'd never actually given much thought to the being born business in Soul Society, but what you said about not every soul needing to be konso'd is true. I can't remember if it was ever addressed in the manga, but does dying in Soul Society then mean you're born in the living world?

Yeah, it seems to equal that.

Then where on earth is Kurosaki Masaki?

Err, bit of a random out-blurt but it's been bugging me for a while. I suspect she's either a Vaizard or the Emperor's daughter or something like that.

well, up until Grand Fisher was defeated, she would have been a part of him seeing as he consumed her soul. It's logical to assume that after Isshin defeated him that she was sent on to SS when she was freed.

I'm surprised Ichigo hasn't tried looking for her (although to be fair, SS is HUGE and he's been kinda busy lately...).

I keep having this suspicion that she'll suddenly pop out from nowhere sometime in the manga and turn out to be some uber duper powerful vaizard or something. In my mind that's the only way that explains the powerhouse that Ichigo is + his vaizardness too...

Yeah, that would be pretty hardcore awesome. Though you've also got to consider all that Ichigo is currently dealing with PLUS the fact that he doesn't know Grand Fisher was defeated, seeing as Isshin did that. So it might be that he just doesn't know she'd be there.

Good point, although wouldn't all souls end up in soul society anyway once they're dead? Or I guess she could be already reincarnated, hence there'd be no point trying to look for her in SS... or just that Ichigo hasn't had time to sit down and figure out how things work in SS!
