feel the freedom like no tomorrow
the FST

o1. Soul Phase (Long ver.) - Kita Shuuhei (youtube link)
ORIGINAL
I believe so strongly
that tomorrow never falls away
(Tsuki bikari shita)

It still awaits
it still carries on through its old ways
till this moment of time
TRANSLATED
I believe so strongly
that tomorrow never falls away
(beneath the moonlight)

It still awaits
it still carries on through its old ways
till this moment of time
NOTES: The main reason for me choosing this song as the opening is not really for the lyrics (although they are pretty, and I personally think it reflects quite a bit about Jimmy in this story) but rather for the imagery that the original source had. There's just that sense of parallels/conflicts going on at the same time which really gets me, and for Jimmy who's shackled with the repercussions of Castiel's actions... I think the song suits this, in a way.

o2. Cloud Age Symphony - Shuntaro Okino (youtube link)
ORIGINAL
Just keep on trying, keep on flying
I will be the light

Yoake o hitotsu no hajimari to suru nara
Ima ga kita beki toki da to suru nara
TRANSLATED
Just keep on trying, keep on flying
I will be the light

If we think of the dawn as one beginning...
If we think of right now as the time to come...
NOTES: This song is admittedly really for the tone rather than the lyrics - but I really can't resist, because the tone just sounds so otherworldly and it seriously sets the atmosphere well. The bagpipes at the background really does it, imho.

o3. Arthas, My Son - Russell Brower, Derek Duke & Glenn Stafford (youtube link)
ORIGINAL
Thanagor.....
Mor Ok Gorum
Pala Ah'm raval
Specto Su Praesenti...
Caligo Caelum...
Mor Ok Croval Anga'lor
Karanir Thanagor....
Karanir Thanagor!
TRANSLATED
King....
May his strength
fail him never
See his power...
Darken the sky...
May his reign last forever
Long live the king...
Long live the king!
NOTES: In case it wasn't obvious enough, I am a huge nerd for WoW even though I never play it anymore these days - the lore alone is rad enough, and the music only makes it better. This track in particular always leaves a big impact on me, especially when you see the original cinematic the song played in. The dark tones and foreboding never fails to send a chill down my spine, and I think this song personifies Godstiel quite well.

o4. Gradus Vita - Hayato Matsuo & The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra (youtube link)
ORIGINAL
Deus obliverat, ratio aeternus
Bapulo pluvit, asper ventus,
hir passus dona renuntio.

Gradus vita, non est causa.
An desiderium caelum
TRANSLATED
O forgetful god, eternal reason
Striks the rain, fiddle with wind,
Before abandons its movement.

There's no more meaning to the step of this life.
Only the sky longed for remains
NOTES: Yet another Godstiel song... although tbh, I do have a whole bunch of them (which is really pretty much all the grand overture baddie songs I ever possessed, but that's another thing). Again, the tone of this song is something that I feel very fitting - and the fact that its in Latin just makes it even better. And before anybody asks, yes, I have always been a huge Hellsing fan. Been one since I was twelve.

o5. Reverse the Destiny (Live Version) - Iwasaki Taku (youtube link)
didn't choose my life it chose me
suppose we share that odyssey
I oughta be a honorable man
ready to take my family's pain
making the way and making my way

NOTES: Something of a Jimmy and Castiel song to reflect things back in Season 4, although in this case this is a bit more of Jimmy's POV. Again, I really love the tone, and the rappish way of this song makes me think of the time when Jimmy compares having Cas inside him to being chained to a comet. But the lyrics are pretty fitting, and the last part 'two pieces make you one piece; remember that' kind of clinches it for me; it reflects well about the bottom line of Jimmy's need for Castiel - the need to make him whole from the start.

o6. Beauty of Destiny - Hirata Shihoko (youtube link)
Beauty of the child of destiny
delightful days
are rich with density of love
thorny path
there's no easy way for real bliss
so I keep on fighting for
beauty of destiny

NOTES: Jimmy, this time more on the current timeline that the fic takes place. It reflects on many aspects on him that takes place in the story - from his desire for a normal life again, and his struggle to fight for that life even though he had never chose to. The tune is already really nice. '^'

o7. D-TechnoLife - UVERworld (youtube link)
ORIGINAL
kowarenai you ni to hanarete iku kimi
mou waraenai nante hito kirai nante kotoba sou iwanai de
ima wa by and by mie nakuttatte subete ni imi ga aru kara
kesenai kako mo seoi attekou ikiru koto o nagedasanai de
TRANSLATED
So you will not break, you distance yourself from me
Don't say words like you can't smile or you hate people
Now it's BY AND BY, even if you cannot see, there's a meaning to everything
Shoulder the burden of the past that cannot be erased; don't throw away your will to live
NOTES: Jimmy and Cas, present timeline. Hahaha admittedly this song sounds a little shippy, but you're free to take it that way or another. But I love the tone, and it feels very suitable for the story - about the lengths that Jimmy is taking here to get back Castiel from the Leviathans, and how despite everything he forgives Castiel for what he had done. Jimmy is such a saint at times, ha.

o8. Kagayaita - Shigi (youtube link)
ORIGINAL
kono michi ga seikai to wa kagiranai kara
boku wa itsumo hitori tachi domatte shimau
dakedo fumi dasanakya nani mo mienai
kimi wa itta “seikai nante ato kara tsuite kureba ii”
TRANSLATED
This path wasn’t necessarily the right one
So I was always standing in place all alone
But if you don’t step forward you can’t see anything
You told me, “You can say if you were right or wrong later”
NOTES: Something of a reconciliation song, from Jimmy to Cas and vice versa - but mostly this is a lead up for the next song below. I think this one is pretty much applicable across any timeline here, but feel free to make of it what you will.

o9. No Rain, No Rainbow - Home Made Kazoku (youtube link)
ORIGINAL
moshikashite mou dame nano kamo
sou omotta yo nankai mo
subete wo nage dashi nani mo kamo
akirameyou to omotta kedo
dekinai jibun wo dareka no sei ni
iiwake ni shite ikiteku yori
dekinai nara jibun nari ni
bukiyou demo butsukatteku beki
TRANSLATED
It might all just be for nothing
I've thought that so many times
I've sacrificed everything
And I've thought about giving up
But instead of living my life making to someone else
As to why I can't do it
If I can't do it, then even though it may be awkward
I should go up against it in my own way
NOTES: A seriously beautiful song that I fall in love with every single time. From the lyrics to the tune to everything about this song - it just really reflects things so well. This one is the serious song of reconciliation between Jimmy and Cas, and also brings up the parallels of Cas with Team Free Will and Jimmy with his family and how the both of them have sacrificed so much in their own ways, and how they wish for their forgiveness as well. It's just really touching, especially with the slight hopeful tune throughout too. ;;

10. Someday, The Dream Will End - Nobuo Uematsu (youtube link)
(instrumental)

NOTES: This song has always given me feels, and to put it in here is nothing short of heartbreaking especially when put in the context of Jimmy and his one day back with the family near the end. The alternative title of this is 'A Fleeting Dream', which sounds just as heartbreaking as this one. The tone of this instrumental only puts in this sense of heartache in you, and... ugh, if you've played FFX before you can feel the ache that this tune brings over, especially for this case.

11. Unification of the Land (Piano Version) - Kow Otani, Masahiro Aoki, Chamy. Ishi, Rei Kondoh, Yasutaka Hatade, Sara Sakurai (youtube link)
(instrumental)

NOTES: Continuing the heartbreaking trend here, yet another song for the context of Jimmy and his day back with the Novaks. This one is more for when Jimmy makes his decision to let Castiel inside him again in the alternate timeline; the original tune is already pretty heartbreaking, but the piano solo sounds a whole lot better and gives a million times more heartache when you listen to it.

12. Bonds - Shoji Meguro (youtube link)
(instrumental)

NOTES: A quiet, pleasant tune at the end of everything - one full of possible hope, even though its clear that there are still going to be some more things to work on. This song in particular took me a while to pin down, mainly because I really wasn't sure if it would work or not; but in the end I think this instrumental was the best option, and I hope you all think so as well.

13. Tamashii Kasanete - Yuuko Satou (youtube link)
ORIGINAL
asahi wo se ni shite nagameta saki ni wa
azayakasugiru niji ga hirogaru
kokochi yoi kaze ni fukare
ima sekai no hate wo mezasu tabiji he
TRANSLATED
The morning sun at my back, the moment I looked
A too bright rainbow spread [across the sky]
Blown by the good-feeling wind
Now, to a journey that aims at the end of the world
NOTES: A nice closing song that resonates well with both Jimmy and Castiel at the end - their hope for the better future after all their trials and tribulations, and one that will benefit the ones close to their hearts (as well as each other).
