Because I might as well put them somewhere more easily found than tumblr. Hahaha.
and jacob had told him before, told him tens and hundreds and thousands and millions of times before but Jimmy didn't listen, wouldn't listen because they weren't who they used to be anymore, no longer the two halves they once were. they were two separate people now, two people bound together by blood and dna and this stupid thing call destiny.
jimmy had told himself before that what he was doing was right, what he was doing would save the world and save the brother he loved (and hated) so much. but no, meg was never helping him, was never helping them and now the world was ending because of her, because of this, because of him.
maybe this is what he deserves, jimmy thinks as he stands in the circle of fire, looking at lucifer who smirks right back at him in a expression akin to triumph. this is his retribution, and jimmy can only think of how fitting it all is.

When Jacob asks him about what happened down in the dijnn's lair, Jimmy can't bring himself to speak about it. The words are caught in his throat, a hard lump forming at the back that refuses to budge. Jimmy can feel the syllables and consonants and the beginnings of so many things wanting to form at the tip of his tongue, but he closes his eyes and remembers Claire's bright eyes and Amelia's warm smile in a life that could never return to him no matter how hard he wished for it.
He hears his brother prompting him again, quiet and curious, and Jimmy opens his eyes to direct a watery gaze towards Jacob. The words still don't come out from him but he thinks that Jacob can understand enough in that one gaze, although at the same time he also hopes that Jacob won't understand enough to see that the reason why Jimmy can wrench himself away from that perfect world is because of him.
The world there was perfect, and Amelia and Claire were perfect, but a life without Jacob's existence at all is something that Jimmy can't bring himself to live with, and he hates himself a little more for it.

Jacob holds his ground as Joseph steps forward, gesturing wildly as his best friend (former best friend, because best friends don't keep secrets and don't become monsters) tells him about power and might and creation and how just here, being here will be so much better, so much more for both of them. The freaks put away by the world, the freaks who humanity will never understand.
In this world, he says, and Jacob can see Jospeh's dark eyes lighting up in excitement. We will be gods, Jacob, and we will make a better world for everybody, a new world.
For us are the unspoken words, and the thing is that Jacob can relate. He can relate all too well where and how and why Joseph is acting the way he is now and saying the things he does. Both of them geniuses in their own right, and because of that same genius society refuses to accept them. They may be the best and the brightest, but there's no way people will ever see them as normal. As equals. They will always be seen to them as different, abnormal, freaks. There will never be a 'normal' for them.
Jacob knows that in another time, another place, he would have said yes to the offer, would go with Joseph regardless of the consequences because there is nothing else to lose for him. But he thinks of Jimmy and thinks of his deal and thinks of the few months that he has left to live. Of how much he's already hurt Jimmy in this, and of how he doesn't want to hurt his brother any longer (and how if he says yes he'll leave Jimmy again, and he can't do that, not again).
So he steels himself and clenches his jaw, looking straight back at the lunatic before him and gives his response. "Thanks, but no thanks. I think I'm gonna stick with the old, dirty, stinky world outside just the way it is."

Jacob lets out a faint sigh of relief when he hears the phone picking up. "Hey, Joseph," he starts, trying to sound as casual as possible even though a good part of him is still boiling in rage. How could Jimmy accuse his best friend for being the one behind what's going on? Joseph would never do anything like that. "You free right now?"
There's a pause over the end of the line, and when Joseph replies he sounds somewhat surprised. "Yeah, I am. What's up?"
"Can I crash at your place for the night?"
"Sure thing," comes the easy response, and Jacob can't help but smile a little at that. There are many things he has missed in MIT despite the lack of Jimmy, and his good old buddy's one of them. "Just you alone?"
Jacob winces a bit at the question - mainly because he doesn't really know what to say once the issue does properly crop up, and Jacob's not counting on it not happening. "Yeah," he manages out after a pause, hoping that he doesn't sound too awkward about it. "Just me."
Joseph falls silent for another minute, and Jacob's almost certain that his friend's about to change his mind when he says "I'll get out the six packs, feel free to let yourself in once you're here" before hanging up, and Jacob smiles just a bit more.
He can always count on Joseph.
