Set of Ficlets.

Fandom: Skins
Pairing: Emily/Effy

---

a) / GLOOMY SUNDAY - Reszo Seress
__(instrumental)

Emily remembers the days when she was home on the weekends.

Now its Katie waiting for her; Katie texting her to come home. Its madness.
Effy doesn't apologise, she doesn't talk about it. Emily's been plucked from her own, personal suburbia, and into a whirlwind.
Instead of reading late, she's drinking late. Instead of doing homework, she gets too high to even think.
Instead, she run her fingers up and down Effy's stomach, watching the goosebumps spread.

She finds, after a time, that she doesn't really feel like drowning, anymore.

b) / WEDNESDAY MORNING, 3.AM - Simon & Garfunkel
__ (I can hear the hear the soft breathing of the girl that I love)

It's hard, Effy thinks.

She's lying awake, staring up at her ceiling, beside Emily. It had been another night of meaningless talking, something Effy hates with a muted passion. Its not useful, it gives impressions. Then why did she feel so indebted to the small, curled up girl next to her?
Its not like she owed her anything.
Emily wasn't her girlfriend, nor her friend.

As Emily mumbles something unintelligible, Effy's heart does something strange and altogether unnatural. It turns over, it grins.

Effy grins with it, towards the new day.

c) SKINNY LOVE - Bon Iver
__(who will love you? who will fight? who will fall far behind?)

They stay in Effy's room when it's pouring with rain and Emily doesn't feel like being at home.
It's nice, in the simplest of ways.

"I'll be with you, if that's okay."

Effy's neck clicks from the speed at which she whipped it around.

"What?"

Emily blushes. It brings out her cheeks, eyes.

"I'll be here, from now." She coughs, looks away. "If that's okay, I mean."

Effy relaxes. It's not hard in the slightest.

"I know."

She pulls out a cigarette, watches the end spark and light. Feels like it's a metaphor for something. Can't remember what.

d) LIGHTHOUSE - The Hush Sound
__(she saved me, I was swimming; so young I almost drowned / under the water; she sang a song of losing her lover)

Dark, gleaming crimson broke the water.

"Cold enough for you?" Emily grinned, before diving back down. Alabaster skin became softer, hued in viridian.

Effy trembled. The chill was setting into her bones.

A second later, she too was gone, her body graceful under the surface. Time, space and everything lost in an empty, fragile green that reminded her of nothing at all.

When Effy came up for air once again, her vision fragmented, they were in a lake of stars, of disintegrated light.

Emily's legs entwined her own, rested her forehead on Effy's shoulder.

They could be swans, Effy thought wistfully. The permanence was tangible.
