Back in Houston, and have re-set up the internet using my d-link router. cause the airlink one my parents have been using is apparently very defective. ::sigh:: don't suppose anyone's got a spare working wireless router that they'd be willing to let my parents borrow? Ack! Computers! Technology! *hides*

(I'll talk about books instead!) Um... A Game of Thrones is indeed a part of a series (called A Song of Ice and Fire). I really liked Thrones (the first book), although I thought his plots/politics were dazzingly complex. Even so, I followed the story well enough. Martin's a bit brutal with his characters - some people get turned off by all the character killings.

And I recently finished Brust's Phoenix Guards! I thought it was wonderful! It's also a part of a series, called the Khaavren Romances, of which Phoenix is the first. It'd be all right to stop after Phoenix, though. The whole series is a pastiche of Alexandre Dumas's The Three Musketeers series, so you might get more out of it if you've already read that series - but it's not necessary to the enjoyment of Phoenix.

One warning about Phoenix - the style Brust employs is meant to imitate Dumas's somewhat. The dialogue is hilariously stilted and circumlocutary, and the characters appear shallow (but in a laughter-inducing way). It's not a style that'll please everyone, that's for sure, but it's worth a try, IMO.

Um...sorry... didn't mean to go on such a long ramble! *bleats* Book burble! Book burble!

(How did the exam go? Or am I confused? Haven't been around lately due to being enthralled by the Silmarillion. >.>)

Sounds like I'm going to want ready access to the next book in A Song of Fire and Ice when I'm done reading it. So I should probably read Phoenix Guards first.

Thanks for the info!
