I'm trying to get
merimask and
wickedthought up to CanGames in 2010. Merimask is a mask designer, who works in leather, and we have three of her masks already. We may be trying to get some bookmarks or keychains for Fox Magic set up to sell at CanGames, designed by her. We'd have a few at the booth, but most would be order-only. She may be able to make it, she's not sure yet -- I'm crossing my fingers.
John Wick would be great at CanGames, and I'm hoping this pans out. At the moment, I've tried to contact CanGames about this specifically, to see if they can cover flying him up. If not, then the next bet is the local L5R CCG community, and seeing if they could help me out here. If I must pay out of my own pocket -- well, I'll try, but that'll be really harsh. If he can make it, he's got a surprise for the convention. *big evil grin*
My company's possibly going to do two panels at the convention -- something we've not done before, and last year was apparently the first time anyone's done a panel at CanGames. I'm thinking the first would be RPG design -- what I've experienced, what Greg's experienced, and I'm hoping to get Dream Pod 9 involved, and if John makes it, maybe he'd be interested in joining in. I mean, the guy's got experience.
The second panel, if we go this route, would be to discuss the evolution of gaming -- from the experiences we had back in the day, to what RPGs are like now. The evolution, the shift in focus, the change in mechanics, and how we feel about this and the impact it has had on RPGs as a whole. Heck, we might even discuss public perception and how that has changed, you never know.
Of course, Fox Magic will be there, all nice and finished and shiny. If I'm lucky, we may have Borderland (subject to name change) there as well. I've got three people who are looking into it and may be working on that instead of me, while I work on Cloak and Dagger. I'm going through the first draft, getting the mechanics hammered out, then I'll be going back and working on the fluff. Might have someone helping there, hoping to get others involved. We'll see.
I feel like such a fan boy. I keep wanting to ask John if he'd like to help me flesh out one of my RPG ideas, and I keep going 'ehhh, no', because the guy's got enough on his plate, and I don't feel... right... asking him to help me. I don't think I'm anywhere near his status, and thus I don't feel worthy enough to ask yet. Maybe once I've got a few more games done, and if he likes what I've done so far. :) We'll see.
Fox Magic is in the can, by the way. All done, edits have been sent in. Kevin's just got to clean up the last little bit, and then we've got it for PDF release. He ships the primary off to the printer's, once he's picked one, and 2-3 weeks later we should start getting the finished books shipped to me. ... 500 books...
While they're in the process of being printed, we'll be taking pre-orders for the book. I really want to do a promotion using Merimask's work, but finances are incredibly tight right now, so that's not happening... yet. Once we have sales, I can see about getting the keychains perhaps done (after Christmas), and then we can see how this plays out. I think they'd be awesome at CanGames.
And Shirts! We've got one Fox Magic shirt already, putting the mon on them would be awesome as well. I'm also considering doing a Wikia for Fox Magic, and my mind's slowly going over ideas for an expansion book. I'm ... you know... hold that thought, I've got an idea... I'll get back to you on that later.
Anyway, 4:30 am. Time for bed!
