omnomnom

There are a few things that I like to make for dinner that I don't make because darkwolfie doesn't care for them. He does make it clear that there's nothing wrong with what I make, and in fact he likes all the ingredients separately, but not in combination.

I made one of them tonight: my mom's version of Shepherd's Pie. It's super simple, only five ingredients, and it's fabulous comfort food. And it's all for ME, because darkwolfie doesn't like it.

Take a pound of hamburger and cook it in a pan, breaking it up with a spatula so it's loose and crumbly. Pour off the fat if there's a lot of it, and add a can of condensed tomato soup (not reconstituted, go straight from the can to the pan). Throw in a couple of handfuls of frozen corn (or drained canned corn, whatever) and cover the whole thing with mashed potato. Top with sliced cheese of your choice, cover, and let the cheese melt. It's really good made with Italian tomato soup, too, but I didn't see any. Twelve different merchandising-related versions of chicken noodle, but no Italian tomato.

Now I have most of a panful of nostalgia ('cause I et some), and it's only going to get better with time. I am a happy, happy camper.
