my life right now =

HOSTESSING AT RUBY TUESDAYS

INTERNING IN THE CITY
(wed, fri)
Mighty busy. Keepin up with classes, working, trying to see friends as often as possible (even though it doesnt seem to work as well - havent seen some people in WEEEKS), spent tons of time sending out resumes and researching internships for the summer, STILL hunting for a summer apartment in the city.
As seen above, I GOT ONE OF THE INTERNSHIPS I applied for - and TODAY WAS MY FIRST DAY! (at Intrigue Music - music management company who represents artists such as JAMES BROWNNN) It was supposed to be for summer but she called to offer me the job (the head of Press and Publicity - she called to hire me as her ASSISTANT!) So I freaked out and was on cloud nine after getting the call because after interviewing and seeing the office and learning more about the company and how great of an opportunity it was - I WANTED THE JOB BADLY! The President has so many music industry connections and just everyone who works there does as well....the offices are unbelievable basically. a HUGE loft space in Chelsea (right next to Chelsea Piers and in the middle of all these haute-galleries and art exhibits and studios....West 26th between 11th+12th)
I TOOK PICTURES WITH MY CAMERA PHONE before I left today ;-) BEHOLD -------->
this is the ENTRANCE/small lobby....a room you walk into before walking through another big industrial/warehouse door into the loft
yeah.....! The place has a BABY GRAND PIANO (if you look hard on the bottom right)....and custom STATUES!
ANYWAYS, so I went in for my first day as the ASSISTANT TO THE HEAD OF PR!! And frankly it was amazing. I got my own desk, my own laptop, etc. And my assigment for the day: she printed out a press release of one of the bands they represent and the band is going to be touring throughout Europe next month so she asked me to take the tour dates set in ENGLAND and to research each city they were playing in (London, Oxford, Birmingham, Portsmouth, Manchester, ETC) and find out what the key music magazines were in each city and also the daily newspapers in each city (like our AM New York and Time Out New York etc) - and to get all the contact information of the music editors etc......and I'll be calling them and asking them to list the gig dates in their publications. THIS IS REAL PR! I couldnt believe she was letting me do REAL stuff on the first day, just dive right in! Not "here's the coffee pot" or "here's a 600 page book and just copy all the information into an excel list".....it was REAL PR!
And I also felt like such an "assistant" when she gave me my notepad and pen and she was telling me about this party they are having in the office in May - I forget exactly what the theme was, something twisted like "BOHEMIAN WHITE TRASH PARTY" -- ha - and they want a tarot card reader! So she asked me to find a tarot card reader in the NYC area to hire and they have a $300 budget and I was skribbling it all down on my pad of paper as she rattled it all off. I found a bunch of those too - had compiled up a storm by the end of the day. I worked my hardest!
I just can't wait until summer and I can work FULL TIME THERE everyday instead of only being able to go in two days a week -- but I didnt even expect to be starting now....and with school and my job at the restaurant, I really cant over-schedule myself....it's just TOO MUCH and everything is ALREADY overlapping! I need to live in the city too - because right now, my commute for the two days a week takes over an HOUR with the 13-stop-HEMPSTEAD TRAIN (the only train that has free and plentiful parking at the station) - I could take an express train that gets to Penn Station in 30 mins but there's no parking and I always get TICKETS. So that aspect makes it even more of a pain. It will be much easier this summer (SIX OR SEVEN WEEKS AWAY) when I can LIVE in the city and just hop the subway!
Anyways, I am gonna get to bed, today was the longest day everrrrrrrrr. 7am to now (2:30am) YEAH I KNOW. I had to get up at 7am and shower and get to the train and then get into the city, and then worked my first day, got back around 5ish and then had to eat super fast and change and go work at the restaurant from 6pm - 12:30am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS MY LIFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! And I have midterms all this week. Infact I even walked into a midterm that I had NO CLUE we were having last thursday and I had to completely wing it since I've been SPACING things with so much going on. Luckily it was a PR class so I know the material pretty well.
WISH ME LUCK ALL!!!!
And I need to mention my mother is amazing :-) MISS HER AND LOVE HER INSANELY - she sent me an e-card before my big "first day"
The little cartoon played and it said "You've climed the highest mountain, and believed in the voice of your dreams, you've listened to your heart, worked hard for your acheivements, and have reason to be SO PROUD" AND THEN she wrote a message -->
Dear Tasha - My Little Girl,
I am so proud of you Tasha and the wonderful woman that you are becoming.
Keep chasing your dreams.
I KNOW you will catch them all.
I love you so very much !!
