how Jk Rowling's shoddy "world creation" leads to fanfiction

Hi,

So I am finally, finally about to write my thesis on fanfiction, and I was wondering if a few of you wouldn't mind helping me out with some examples. Basically, one of my theses is the reason there is so much harry potter fanfiction out there is because the world jkr has created is filled with holes, inconsistencies and dangling pieces. I owe this theory in large part to Jodel of red hen publications. In poststructuralist terms, there is a lot of harry potter fanfic because the whole harry potter system lacks a center and therefore has a lot of "play."
I am looking for any examples of fics that you know of that capitalize on these flaws/holes/inconsistencies/abandoned plot bits. To give you an example of what I'm looking for: something like a fic or a group of fics that capitalize on the inconsistency that in 1981, Dumbledore says that in eleven years, we've had precious little to celebrate, meaning that voldemort has been terrorizing the world for all that time. whereas facts in hbp lead us to believe that Voldemort has been known as the dark lord since 1957 and it is unlikely that he was inactive during the period from 1957 to 1970. Another example, this time with a fic to support it. According to Jodel, Jkr never draws the line between dark arts and normal magic. "Penance is the play" by Maeghlan Yeti does a fabulous job of mending this hole.

I am also writing about Bloomian anxiety of influence. One of Bloom's laws of anxiety of influence, Apophrades or reutrn of the dead, states that a new author writes a piece that displaces the original work, so that it appears that the new work superceded the original and that the original was merely a foreshadowing of the new text. An example of this is the way some New Testament scholars regard the old testament. I am looking for fics that do this same thing, that utilize the original text in such a way that it appears that these new fantexts were the original. I think that all texts that use the "harry is a horkrux" or "harry becomes the next dark lord" are accomplishing this, but I was looking for other people's opinions.
Thanks!
Tasha
