The events of the previous weekend hadn't been too bad for Elle, so why had she been in a funk all week? Sure it'd been nice to have a sister, even if it'd only been for the weekend and she hadn't found out until the second day, but... if it'd been so nice, why was she so upset now? She didn't get it

Hayley knocked on Elle's door in a hurried fashion. Urgent, even.

"Hey, hey, hey," she said, all antsy outside the door.

Elle blinked up at the door. "Oh, just get in here already," she said, looking back to her homework. She didn't bother to ask who it was because honestly, who ever came to see her besides Hayley?

Hayley entered, shutting the door behind her.

"...I forgot what I was gonna say," she said, pausing with a little befuddled expression on her face.

Well, that got a full-on look from Elle.

"Seriously?" Elle shook her head. "Well, don't think about it and maybe it'll come back to you."

"How am I suppose to think about it if I don't know what it was?" Hayley said. "If I could think about it, I'd know, right?" Hayley said, trying to sound smart.

"Well, yeah." They had the same logic sometimes. "I just mean, don't try and make yourself remember it or anything. 'cause that never works and you just end up even more confused."

"Well, yeah," Hayley said, nodding. She walked over and flopped backwards into Elle's bed.

"I can't believe the term is almost over."

"I know, right?" Elle turned in her chair to look at Hayley. "Feels so weird to be saying that."

Even moreso, it felt weird that she'd been there as long as she had.

"I mean, that mea ns it's half way done," Hayley said. "And that means I'm closer to having to go home and that's just..."

She really didn't want to go home. She sighed.

[tasenburn]

"Uh-oh, that's not a happy sigh."

Real observant, Elle.

"Who says you have to go home?" Elle asked. "I mean, can't you go and travel for a while first?"

"What am I gonna do, rob a bank?" Hayley said. She entertained the thought for a moment and... filed it away for later. It didn't sound too bad, actually.

"I don't really got any money to travel."

[tasenburn]

"I could get you money," Elle offered after a split second.

"...you could?" Hayley said, rolling over to prop her head up in her hands. "You'd do that for me?"

That made her all warm inside.

[tasenburn]

"Well, yeah," Elle said. "I mean, you're my best friend. All I'd have to do would be ask my dad. He'd totally do it."

Mostly to shut Elle up about it, not that she knew that but anyway.

"I mean, okay, he'd probably want to meet you first 'cause it's not smart to just give someone money without meeting 'em even if she is your daughter's friend. But that's not so bad, right?"

"Oh, I can meet him, no problem. I done way worse than meeting a guy who'll give me money," Hayley said, a little excited. "You're the greatest, Elle, really."

[tasenburn]

"Soon as I get a chance, I'll call him and get it set up," Elle said with a grin. "Because it'd probably be a good idea for him to meet you before the end of next semester and all."
