I FINALLY finished HBP at two o'clock this morning, and cried my eyes out. I was quite impressed, honestly, and anyone who thinks that the book moved too fast or the characters weren't developed enough are mildly crazy. I feel like HBP kinda crossed the bridge from a book written for younger kids to a book written for young adults. Anna thinks JRK was writing for her original fans - who picked up The Philosophers Stone seven years ago - who are now 14-19 years old. I agree.
Anyway. I flat-out refuse to post spoilers because I don't want to ruin the reading experience for anyone. I do want to make some comments about my view on the fandom, which I will put behind an LJ cut incase anyone could find these remotely spoiler-y. What?? There's nothing too godawful under the cut, I think, but, y'know, read at your own risk.
+ Right. So I'm recently reading that a lot of people are geeking out over Tonks. To which I heartily reply - guess what? JKR wrote the books, and has every right to portray her characters in whatever sort of relationships she wants. Personally, I always kinda dug Tonks... I liked her character quite a bit. And I could see the said relationship coming from a mile away... it makes me happy, because I think that the second party involved rather needed her, and she needed him. So that's Point A. Sorry guys... as much as I was a fan of an alternative relationship, I have to say that I am quite content with this one. And so is JKR.
+ WOW. Um. Things look sad for our Order. ::wistful sigh:: I don't know what to really expect in Book 7 anymore, because most of what I expected in Book 6 was completely different! Wow. I really enjoyed reading this book, because I didn't know what to expect. My advice for Book 7? DO NOT READ SPOILERS. Also, don't read the Table of Contents with the chapter titles, and DO NOT SKIP AHEAD. So much of the joy I got from HBP was not knowing what to expect next. A lot of people who Anna and I waited in line with at B&N insisted on reading the last page first. They, I have decided, are insane.
+ I missed Sirius Black.
+ Rememeber that portraits at Hogwarts are known to TALK. That's all I'll say about that.
Mm. So. It's raining. Yay. I'm bored.
4.52 pm - EDIT: Dear God. I just read the fandom_wank for HBP. Holy crap, there are some intolerably awful people in this fandom. I decided to drop the remusxsirius community because of the... um, craziness going on there. There are people who are just DROPPING the series from their lives and pretending to never have been fans of the book just because of a choice JKR made for HER characters. I'm sorry. Authors do not make their own characters OOC. They know their characters better than anyone else. Obviously JKR had ideas for her characters, and she acted on them. As she should... because um, y'know... they're... HERS.
My favourite fandom_wank post, however, HAS to be the post about some idiotic woman wanting to destroy a little kid for beating her in a costume compitition where the prize was opening the first carton of HBP books. >_> Um. If you look for HP in any of the bookstores, I believe it's located under "CHILDREN'S BOOKS". NEVER FORGET THAT JKR IS WRITING THIS SERIES FOR KIDS. Yeah. I spend a lot of money on costumes too, lady, (and my PS/CoS Uniform is by far the most expensive I've done!) but that doesn't mean that I deserve to open the first crate of books. For the love of God, give it to a kid!!
I guess writing hate mail to a woman who just earned another couple of million dollars will make everyone happy, right? ::rolls eyes:: Get. Over. It.
... I loved HBP. And I can't wait to see what the seventh book will bring. :) Hopefully more 'ship sinking. I love watching fangirls geek out over romantic relationships in books, and then having the audacity to criticize the author because she sunk the ship. See? This is why I was so hesitant to join the fandom so many years ago...
