Pinkdegas/Sarah, whom I met on Xanga, like, years ago, dropped in to Toronto this past Friday - unannounced, and all the way from Portland! Out of the blue, I got a chance to have my first meeting-a-long-distance-internet-friend situation.

Thankfully, she didn't turn out to be a freak.

Nah, I kid. I always figured she'd be cool, I've always like her writing *cough*whensheposts*cough*). So, the last couple of nights, we've been out on the town, hitting some of my favorite spots. The ones that were open, anyhow - Tuesday and Wednesday aren't the most happening nights. But we got a chance to catch up, compare accents, and diss hipsters (they're easy targets). Sarah thinks that Canadians are smarter and cuter than Americans, but I disagreed: we're not any more intelligent, just MUCH more attractive. And humble, of course. And we planned to leapfrog the hipster/ironic fashion curve by going straight to rap-rock. Fuck y'all and your trucker caps and mullets, we're gonna rock the reversed red cap and baggy shorts. It'll be YEARS before fashion catches up with us.

So, the bad part of the story (which I probably should'nt go into too much detail on) is that the person she was joining in Toronto (who came her earlier on a business trip) turned out to be a tool, so she was left sort of stranded in a strange city. Hopefully, I managed to cheer her up, some. We ate greasy food; watched backyard wrestling tapes and talked about our teenage geekdom at the Bovine; chilled out/got ignored by the too-cool waitress at the Green Room; found a punk/rock/retro night at Velvet, got drunk on Canadian beer, then danced to Rancid; walked the cold nighttime streets of T.O.; had the last late-pickings donuts at Tim Horton's. I didn't get home last night till about 4 AM (which made the morning *really* fun), but it was worth it. Seriously, when am I likely to be in Portland? :-/

Yeah, and in the course of being a T-dot tour guide, I finally took a picture of that Val Kilmer graffiti-meme shit that's all over dontown. The papers are finally starting (like, a year late) to pick up on this, but they don't seem to get that there doens't NEED to be a reason for it. That's the whole point:
