Developments:
.. Celebrating a co-worker's birthday party on Thursday, a large group of us federal public servants cabbed it over to a club called 'My Apartment'. I didn't get in - they have a policy against steel-toe boots. But I wore a tie! Hah. At least I avoided some bad music. :-)
.. Last night, caught the
Marilyn Manson show at the Hummingbird Centre (a fancy-shmancy concert theatre). I was a little worried that a rock concert with actual seating might end up a little bloodless, but Mr. Manson pulled off a great show. He's parlayed his old, serious overtones into fun evil shtick - dancing stripper girls with strap-on plastic boobs, confetti, Mickey Mouse ears, a giant inflatable Manson head. No encore, and mere seconds after the show ended, the house lights came up - management wasn't screwing around. The chubby, geeky 'normal' kids in front of us were cute when they rocked out; the reefer-hazed guy screaming in a deathmetal voice next to us was obnoxious. And of course, many hilarious fashion cases in attendance: corpsepaint and a cowboy hat? Why not?
..
blacklilypie's parents were down for the weekend, bringing gifts of frames with which to make our apartment walls less naked (thanks!). We were out at the St. Lawrence antiques market today before they left. I haven't gotten this much sun in a single day in forever (seriously, like an hour and a half). I recovered by finishing
"Eunoia", eating cookies, and listening to The Flaming Lips and Sigur Ros (and feeling like a pretentious fuck, too, which is good sometimes).
.. The best for last:
We have a fucking show here in Toronto! We've been booked to play the Sept. 4th
New Scream show at Savage. We'll be opening for someone or other, which is okay by me: I don't imagine that we'd draw a large crowd on our own (what with being completely unknown and all). I'll be heading up to Sudbury for the long weekend for some hardcore rehearsal time - it's been months since we practiced together. Also, this means I'm eating like, nothing but salad for the next six weeks.
