Todayyyyyyy. Much interesting.

So about 2:30 a whirly-whirly (for those not up to the slightly antiquated Brisbane slang, small tornado) developed in my street, picked up a deck umbrella from a house about 200 metres down the road, and drove it into my roof, creating a bit of a hole and smashing a lot of roof tiles. Wandered down the street an hour or two later, and found a family that had their front fence blown over, and another couple of houses that had huge gaping holes in their roofs, including one guy who held up a large iron grill and attachment (the kind that are used in internal heating systems) while standing in the hole in his roof and said "Is this yours? I have no idea where it came from, it's not one of mine". Turned out to be his next-door neighbours. Anyway, went to work, worked 6-11 (it's a crap shift) while the office christmas party was banging away at Tryst down the street (fuuuuucking crap shift), finally finished, was on my way to aforementioned christmas party (as I get on with my co-workers quite well) when I got a call from my mum telling me that a rather large portion of our roof had collapsed, and that she and my dad had to evacuate their bedroom and move all the furniture out of it. Stayed at party for about 45 minutes, had a great time, some very drunk co-workers who were very amusing (apparently I'm "dapper"), got home and found out that, yes, there was a big hole in my parents ceiling, and they're sleeping downstairs tonight. Tomorrow I'll have a look for myself at the damage from outside, but I don't think I'll be getting inside the roof itself, as apparently a lot of it is liable to give way at any minute. Oh, also ran into my friend Lauren (from work) as I was getting onto the train - she was getting off it, on her way to said party. I mentioned I was heading home early-ish as my roof had collapsed, and she said "Oh wow, exact same thing happened to me yesterday!" Hah, the joys of Melbourne weather.

Anyway, in other news I'm helping a friend find a place to stay (as for various reasons she can't stay in the apartment she's currently in) while wanting to move out myself (I would, I'm finally earning enough, but it would kill my mum), and absolutely loving ska/reggae at the moment. The weather is cool, but it has fucked up my house, which isn't so great.
