3. CANTON. "He is." YES YES YES YES.
I was kind of surprised by this line, actually. Mostly because I felt like it was clear enough that Canon was gay from the whole notion of him being fired for wanting to get married, and I liked the subtlety of that. But it was brilliant nonetheless. As was the look on Nixon's face.

God, I knew Doctor Who was going to be all ridiculously awesome, all the time with Moffat at the helm, but he just goes so far beyond my expectations and wildest dreams, every single time. Before it was like, I liked Doctor Who *except for* the Russell T. Davies episodes.

Also, every time I see the word "spoilers" now, I hear it in a River Song voice.

I was surprised they confirmed that, but I was glad they did, because I think otherwise people would have argued about whether Canton was gay for ages. Plus people always complain that Moffat-era has fewer overtly gay characters.

Moffat is fabulous, though sometimes I'm not sure I'd like some of the things he writes were I able to see past the BLINDING AWESOMENESS. And yeah, there are a lot of RTD episodes I was meh about, and a few I actively hated.

Everytime I say "spoilers" I say it in a River voice. :D

Yeah, I figured that was why they did it. I did love the way it was handled overall though-- Canton is a total badass character who, oh, also happens to be gay. It doesn't take over the story any way and isn't obvious until he brings it up. Also, it seemed strangely (and enjoyably) bold to me that he'd actually say he wanted to get married in that era and in his work environment. Generally, being openly gay when you work for the government is *still* kind of questionable.

I think Moffat will write gay characters in where and when they seem to fit, and I think there'll be more as his reign goes on. I have thought about this, and there *are* fewer, but I'd rather see one really well-thought-out gay character from him than half a dozen sort of stuck in to prove a point. (Also, the founding fathers line totally counts. That was beautiful. I'm kind of a Jefferson/Adams shipper, myself, or at least the Jefferson and Adams as depicted in 1776. *is a nerd*)

Yeah, I love that it's not at all obvious or relevant that he's gay until the very end. He's a fabulous character regardless, and it feels much more meaningful and satisfying to have him do all these awesome things and then go oh, BTW, gay, than to stick a character in purely so there's a gay character on screen.

Yay founding fathers line! Oh, Doctor.

Yeah, he's amazing with plot. He really ties series together well, while still having one-off episodes like Vincent and the Doctor or The Lodger that are super well-contained in themselves.

The daleks are such an icon of Doctor Who, I think they were throwing them in a lot to convince people that New Who is Doctor Who. Hopefully they've got that across now.
