Its not unusual at work to be involved in half a dozen projects and and assorted tasks at any given time. As we often have a finger in a number of pies its common to go on a days training to learn about this or half a day with X's team to learn about that. So it was no great surprise when my manager asked me in a worried voice if I would give up the time change project (moving the clocks forward this weekend) so I could go on 3 days to learn about some other system. He seemed worried that I was particularly attached to the clock change project perhaps because its a whole 8 hours overtime on Saturday night.... ( OOOooooOOO! I hear you say). Being the happy camper as usual I said it was fine. He looked happy and as I turned back to my computer to crack on with something he mentioned as a side note that the training was in Tel Aviv starting next week.... Now this is not normal to put it mildly. Quite a few people have been back and forth to India of late because of outsourcing but other than that overseas trips are VERY unusual. I've only had two before now and they were a 1 day trip to Belfast and a 2 day trip to Dublin. This is a 5 day trip to Israel. Although my company is usually tighter than a ducks arse (they wouldn't even buy me a diary this year! fuckers.) they don't sod about on overseas trips. Thus next week myself and 2 of my workmates will be enjoying business class all the way to Israel! Even better was that because of a big football game between England and Israel this weekend and passover next weekend all the hotels were full... So there was not other choice than to put us up in the 5 star $400 a night prime hotel. shame! All I have to do now is find some way to buy a diary and charge it to expenses.
Just to add to the fun I get back on the friday just in time to do a bit of washing and fly out to the Alps on the Monday for a few days skiing before easter weekend. Ahhh the life of the single jet setter! If only the rest of the year was like this!
Not bad for the guy who used to stack shelves (at the same company!)
